MFI without airbox
 

Anyone know who (if anyone) makes a kit to run trumpet top filters like they make for weber carbs? I saw a set on a car and it even had squirters to prime it. The guy did not know anything about it, he bought the car with it done. I have had a set of ITGs laying around and would like to put them to use if I send them to be done somewhere.Thanks

It's been done...the ITG filters...but with '72-73 stacks, which have the squirters intake mounted down in the middle area of the stacks. I'm not sure of the adapters Tom used, but he did go to flexible (rsr type) injection lines to gain clearance. Did I read you right? You want to put trumpets atop the stacks? I'd recommend you not do that...the stacks are factory tuned. Trumpets would change that tuning and you'd lose power.

I have a 2.7 RS (not an RS spec if it matters) and want the exact set up you have shown. I just noticed your filters are shorter than mine, I will deal with the filter height later I just want to get this air box gone!

So do you have plastic or mag stacks?

Without running out to the garage, whatever the 911/83 RS motor has for stacks. I will be heading out to tinker later and will check unless you know off hand now Scott.

If you have a real, all original 911/83 RS...the stacks are plastic.

My 2.7 MFI motor uses K&N filters with some custom aluminum plates that hold them on - looks pretty easy to do (but I didn't make them):

Great, I would think plastic should be easier to work with. The ITGs do have the plates and will need cut out, I have not looked to see how or if I need to install squirters into the stacks. The guy that had this set up said when starting the engine warm it would not start without the squirter nozzles. Thanks

The squirters should already be in the stacks and are realy only needed in cold weather. My 2.7 starts just fine without them hooked up (it was 43F today). I don't understand your guys statement about needing them when starting the engine warm, as they are only for cold start enrichment.

I have the squiters on a manual toggle switch (small fuel pump) and I find them very helpful to have...

The guy stated that when cold or hot it fires right up. If he lets it sit hot for a half hour to an hour he needs to hit the squirter button. I think im just going to have the ITG plates done and if it requires squirters I will deal with it at that time. I am heading out to the garage soon and will see if the factory set up has some type of prime on it. Hate to admit but I never looked yet!

Spooldup...first of, if you have a real RS, I would not suggest that you make the conversion.

That said, the first pic, with the ITG's was not my car...a friend's car. He made an adaptor plate so the IGT's, designed for carbs, would fit atop the MFI stacks. In order for the fuel lines to clear the ITG filters, he removed the hard lines, replaced them with RSR flexible lines.

I stress again...unless your "RS" is a clone, I would NOT recommend that you do this...unless your willing to give up quite a bit of the car's value in order to look cool...If you want to do an early 911 hotrod, a good starting point is a '73 T, like my friend used.

Its a Euro 1975 that came with the 911/83 RS motor. Besides, could you not just put it back to original if you wanted to? I have some mods done to it that can be put back to stock but believe me I will never sell this car anyway. I have three other Porsches that will be sold off (two of them soon)but this one will go to my son and he knows not to sell it when I die or I will come down and choke him!

Gotcha...just hang on to those stock parts. Have fun! :)
