Weighed the Carrera today.... After 2 1/2 years of experiencing the slippery slope of weight reduction, I finally had the car weighed today. 2350 lbs. with a few gallons of gas in the tank. Now I proudly have a "light" '86 Carrera with the following changes: No AC No heat No air handling hardware of any kind! No windshield washer reservoir No spare tire No rotor shields No rockers No center console No sound deadening, except for light insulation under the rear shelf Fiberglass ducktail Fiberglass front and rear bumpers Carbon Fiber rear shelf Carbon Fiber smugglers box cover Carbon Fiber brake reservoir bracket Single wiper set-up Odyssey battery What's next??? replace stock seats (~45 lbs each) suggestions??? When people ask, "why did you do that to a perfectly good stock 911?", I just take them for a ride and they smile in understanding! :D Dan http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1170549909.jpg |

That's nice and light! What was your starting weight? |
|
Geez, the seat change is one of the first things I usually see guys do. Go for it, get rid of those heavy lumps!! Good job on the weight savings. I need to get off my butt and pull a few more lbs out. |

OMG!??!! Please don't take this the wrong way but, are you sure about that weight? Was it a digital scale? Wow! That's insane! And you still have the stock seats? I haven't weighed my '87 yet but I have removed many of the things you have. It's been my goal to get my car down to 2700 or less without doing anything crazy. With the turbo conversion, bigger wheels, and brake upgrade I realize I have a decent amount of added weight but, hearing your numbers makes me feel much more confident that I can easily meet my goal. |

Great looking car. Do you have a sunroof? |
|
Good minds think alike, my 86 Carrera 2480lbs. with half tank of gas. Fiberglass bumpers, carbon fiber hood and ducktail. All AC hardware and hoses removed, RS door panels, RS carpet kit, window washer resivor deleted, no spare, no radio, no speakers.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1170552109.jpg Your right, wight vs hp is everything. Diet! Diet! Diet! |

Good for you. My cab is down to 2580 with 3/4 tank....a little hefty but it's a girly cab..... |

Follow-up... The car was weighed on a local certified county run scale. I do still have the sunroof and very much want to keep it, but have been casually thinking about removing the power feature and converting to a manual open close set-up. Anyone have any ideas/experience for doing this and keeping the headliner intact? I dyno'd 229 rwhp a few months back (cam, SW chip, headers, etc...) and am trying to get to 10 lbs. / hp and right now it is much easier and cheaper to lose the weight then pay for hp. Dan |

BTW...I did what you did and I went with a f/r fiberglass hood and front fenders....RS style front and rear signals... |
