Aftermarket seat opinions
I have been looking for a pair of 77-83 sport seats for my 78SC Targa. It seems the only ones available are worn and need to be redone or are priced like gold. I have been looking at Konig and Corbeau seats simply because I can get new seats for the price of seats that are 18-23 years old. The car is a daily driver that is used on the track occationally so a full race seat is out of the question. Any recomendations?

www.fvd.de has some pretty nice seats for 911s. Not the cheapest ones around, but still not that expensive either.
I agree with you that used 911 seats in good condition at a fair price are hard to find. |

Recaro SRD's seem to be popular with guy's around here. Recaro and Porsche go way back, and if Porsche seemed fit to put them in their car, I would also. Other seats, you get what you pay for. Price $550. They can be ordered with a lap pass through also. They are adjustable and are good for everyday driving but supportive enough for track use. Dave Turner Motorsports had good prices on these. I sold my Recaro Sport seat that came with my car for $1500, so you can see the price for originality is high. The SRD's are actually more comfortable and weigh about half as much as those loads. It was a quick 50lb weight loss. www.daveturner.com

what do the "sport seats" in your car look like? the 911, 924, 944, and 928 all share the same seats (except power seats) from the mid 1970s through the 1980s.
i have 2 911 seats in my 924. the seats came from a late 1970s 911 SC. they are in excellent shape (like new). i will be getting rid of them in the spring for dirt cheap, as i am installing racing seats. do you want me to hang on to them for you? they are in excellent shape, and i can send photos if you wish. obin |

original recaro sport seats are very expensive in any type of condition. i don't think you can pick up a used pair for less $1k and they still may need recovering + $. how about those CORBEAU SPORT SEATS as seen in the tweeks catalogs for $330-$370 each (depending on material)? they look very similiar to the early recaro sports. does anybody have these?

Trust me on this: The best seats are made by Sparco. Either the "Evo" or the "Pro 2000" models are the best they offer. I think you can get a pair through OG Racing in Virginia (ogracing.com)

I have some black Corbeau GTS II, seats that I purchased with adapter kit (important!) for about $900 including sales tax, for the pair!.
They were easy to install and very comfortable if you prefer lumbar support(mine came with inflatable lumbar). The side bolsters are narrower and would not suit a 'Lardass' who might need a prybar to get out! but for us skinnier guys, the bolsters grip you in the corners (if we had any in Florida!. I find the standard porsche seats unsupportive. The seats came in black cloth and are in keeping with the style of car and can be used with conventional seat belts. All in all I am very happy with mine. Wish I could say the same for the rest of the car at the moment. ![]() Hope this is of some help- try the web site at Corbeau.com Remember - the adapter kit bumps the price up and is extra rgds 86ragtop [This message has been edited by 86ragtop (edited 11-28-2000).] |

I recently had my '81 sport seats reupholstered for $175 each. I'll post a before and after pix once I figure out how to add a picture on this BBS. However, I did not use leather but a leatherette type material. The appearance is the same as leather but is more durable. I almost purchased some aftermarket seats but I wanted to restore my car close to original as possible.

Obin,
I believe the sport seat bolsters are larger than the other type of stock seats. If I am incorrect, someone please advise. Thanks. John '81 SC Targa |

Yep, the sport seats have bigger bolsters, and are the best factory seating option, barring the extremely expensive factory leather covered Kevlar RS seats (which I think are nothing more than Recaro SPG's with leater!).

Hey Schubee (John, '81 SC Targa):
I'm in Newport Beach / Tustin, right next to Huntington Beach. Where did you have your seats recovered? The price sounds right. And being I also have a Targa, I am inclined to go with letherette as leather tends to dryout in the sun. And I'm one for keeping the top off. |

I've got factory leather sport seats in my 84 911, but would trade for black non-leather recaros on the spot...

I would have to agree with freefly on the sparco seats. I have supersports and they have to be the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. You can drive all day without any aches. There also built well and look great. Matt
