I BOUGHT THAt SIVER 1989 3.2 IN TEXAS!!!
HUGE thanks to Jack, Mark and Frank for doing a pre-ppi for me in Austin. Great peeps those guys.
So here's what happened. I took the car to the seller's mechanic for the ppi after the biys gave the car thumbs up -- David Moore. The leakdown showed the car at 3-4% across the board. Moore said it was "like a new engine." He rebuilt it 50K ago. All major items checked out great. There are a few minor issues -- oil leak from tube behind air compressor, rear sway bar mount broken, washer fluid motor does not work. But overall, the car is in great shape and drives/runs terrific. It has been used as a daily driver by a Porsche fanatic for over 11 years. He also owns a 911S and knows how to run these cars without causing harm. So today I wired the funds ($16,500) to the seller. We agreed on that price because I have to have the clutch replaced and a full service done (plus a couple minor repairs) prior to picking it up and driving back to Seattle. Seller is overnighting me title and will drop the car with Jack's mechanic, Steve Henry, (who has been great) where the car will stay until I fly out on the 17th to pick it up! The only weird thing that happened was that the seller reduced his price in the PCA web page to 15,500 after months of no good interest when he had it near 20K. The listing I operated from said "15,500 or best offer." Where I come from, that means seller would accept 15,500 if offered. Here, the seller thought it meant that was the floor, i.e., the lowest amount he'd accept. I Have never heard that interpretation but whatever. He had interest from another buyer or two (after all you good folks discussed the car on this site with me) and wanted to show the car, possibly leading me into a bidding war. I told him I would walk if he did not agree to negotiate with me solely, as we agreed to initially over the phone. He cancelled the other guy's meeting and agreed. The seller was a gentlemen. I ended up with a fair price and am very happy, even though more than the 15,500 I expected to have to pay pre-repairs. Jack, Mark, Frank -- I am red-eyeing out to Austin and will arrive with a good friend on Saturday the 17th at 9:45 am. I am heading from there straight to Steve Henry's for the car and have only a small amount of time before we have to get on the road. It will be tiring but worth it! Wanna grab some later breakfast with us or something? You guys made this happen and I need to get your meal and say a proper thank you!! Cheers. Jason |

I wouldn't be too upset at paying more. I think you're further ahead than the 15.5K if they're doing a clutch job for you...the clutch kit alone sells for $850! Congrats on your purchase! Lots of pics are a must...

you couldn't have picked a better mechanic. Tell Steve I said hi. I purchased his 86 red turbo look from him a few years ago as a toy to play with. Great car very well taken care of.
Enjoy your new purchase. You haven't really owned a car till you've owned a 911. Brian |

Very cool! I don't see any glossies yet though....
![]() By the way, it's a quite responsible man who gets a "pre-peepee" inspection, IMHO. ![]() So enjoy and remove the Romulin cloaking device effect, OK? ![]() |

Jason,
Congratulations! I'm really glad to hear things worked out well for you. Definitely let's try to get together Saturday morning. Good timing as I will be returning from China the night before (so not too early), and running in the marathon on Sunday. I'll send you a pm with my contact info. btw, if you're interested, here's the thread on my suspension project for the "winter". Time to replace 30 year old suspension - little help please? Frank

Glad to hear it all worked out. I am in for breakfast. Drop me a PM or just e-mail when your flight gets in. Perhaps Jack, Frank and I could pick you up at the airport and drive you over 911 style. That would save you cab fare and time!
Let me know, Mark

So Frank, are you a superhero or what? Back from China one day then a marathon the next? What are you Lance Armstrong or something? Amazing.
Mark - I felt like you guys did so much already, I didn't want to impose on a ride from the airport. But if you're offering... That would be super cool to get a pre-911 ride in to get the juices flowing! I need to see you guys' rides too. My fight arrives at 9:55 am. I'll pm you, Jack and Frank when we get closer to D-day! There will be two of us plus 2 small bags so obviously we'd need more than one 911! Either way, lunch/beer or breakfast should definitely be on our itinerary. So looking foward to meeting you guys and getting my car! Jason

Jay - I am paying for clutch and 15K service plus a few minor items, not seller. That is approx. 3K! Add in tax/liensing, travel expenses, etc etc. I don't want to add it all up!! It still is a pretty good deal and the car will be fully up to snuff with a new buttery smooth cluch so I'm happy. Hope these cars are as "bullet proof" as I hear.
Jason
