I want to remove the floor carpet to the left of the clutch pedal.
Can I unbond the adhesive without damaging the carpet by just pulling the carpet up? Or is there a solvent that I should use?

I can only speak on my recent recarpet experience. I have an 84 Cab that had the original carpet. Although I had to tug a bit, I was able to remove the carpet without solvent or tearing. If you case is similiar, you shouldn't have a problem removing it in the same manner. Good luck!

I'd say 20+ year old carpet is going to be in varying condition based on the weather and climate it's seen. My Texas car didn't want to relinquish it's carpet with out some damage to the backing. But, I was yanking it to replace, so I didn't care. You've got a good chance, but go slow.

jklaspok & efhughes3,
Thanks for the tips! I'm going to try the gentle tearing option and see how it goes.

Gentle pulling worked fine, the carpet stayed in good shape.

Gentle pulling with one hand, release the glue with a straight razor blade with other hand.

Like everyone says, gentle pulling should work out fine. Go slow!
Good luck, Alex

I agree with going slow to be safe, but when I removed a section of my original ('78) carpet that was dry-rotting from a leak (that I'm still trying to locate under my dash area) it came out easily by hand and didn't tear. In fact I tried cutting it out with a new razor blade before I removed it by hand. The razer cut through it very very slowly. Very time consuming so I just ripped it out, after twenty minutes of frustrating cutting. Amazing how dense this carpet is and how well constructed it is.
From my experience, I wouldn't worry about being too gentle. -Matt
