Wrong oil and too much!!!!!

Yep! me again!
Well Warren (et al)
I was not going to mention this as was trying to focus in on the main problems I had (oil leak/trans oil type)
But after specifying mobil 1 for the oil change, I returned to find they had put in Pennzoil 20w50!!!!!
(Vertex say they were out of Mobil 1 on Wedneday, but will change it on Monday)

Ontop of that.
After returning to Key Largo (50mins),I checked the oil level to find it about 2" OVER THE FULL MARK on the dipstick. What brought my attention to this was the oil meter never dipped from full. I normally keep my engine at 3/4 for fear of over filling!.
I have 2 questions!:

1) Is 2" excess oil enough to do damage to the engine (Vertex insists not!)

2) Should I insist they flush the old oil out so that there is not a sythetic/mineral mix, which is bad I believe?.
Plus should they flush with more synthetic or other product (solvent?)
Your information would be greatly appreciated

Ragtop Ben,

Well, I guess I won't be driving to Miami to have my oil changed!

As far as flushing, I don't think that would be necessary, the Mobil and regular oil is compatible.

I not sure that 'damage' is possible, but a couple of very annoying things could happen if the excess oil gets blown into your air filter housing ... it WILL make a big mess (and may already have) and it could cause smoking out the exhaust if the oil is ingested into the manifold. So, if you have a handy, clean hose to use as a siphon, why don't you drain off 2 or 3 quarts from the tank ... down to something between thedipstick marks, anyway.

You may want to change your air filter element, if wet with oil. Good luck!

A friend of mine with an 81 SC was changing his own oil. He read somewhere that his oil capacity was 11.3 quarts, so that's what he put back in. Oops. He eventually had a problem with the fast idle in that it took about 15 minutes to come off fast idle. Of course I got to diagnose this problem. What I found was an airbox full of oil and an auxiliary air valve full of oil. The heating element in the Aux. air valve took much longer to heat up while sitting in a pool of motor oil and was causing the problem. Just a heads-up in case you run into a similar prob due to the overfilling.

I overfilled mine once, and it was just fine for about the first 2 miles. Then, as I was driving down the freeway, I noticed some smoke out the back. No biggie right? Well, if you can see smoke at 70 mph, guess what it's like in traffic?
I literally smoked out the entire city of Burbank getting to to work.
When I left work that day, no one could have possibly seen a thing following me down the side streets. It was thoroughly humiliating.

But by the time I got home, most of the overflow had burned off, and it was back to business as usual.

Thanks guys
One thing,
I bought a K&N air filter at Vertex and fitted it. But where do you plumb the 1/2" hose that use to go into that air box?
(I presume it is the crank case vent?)
Is it supposed to have it's own K&N ?
(I doubt it!)
Any ideas guys?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe you even need that crank case vent on your 3.2, even with the K&N mod. Check into it first though.

Wellll, mrdi
I did'nt actually change the oil!.
As I said 'they put in too much of the wrong oil' as in 'Vertex' of Miami.
I have just returned from draining
2 QUARTS! from the tank using one of those drill fitting pumps.
The dip stick and gauge are now reading 3/4 full and the engine did not smoke profusely on start up!- thanks yet again warren!.

But as I mentioned before:
Anybody got any ideas on what to do with the spare pipe which used to go into the air box now I have a K&N filter?
