What would you do? exhaust or suspension
My 81' SC has original suspension and 130,000 miles. I also have 7 & 9' fuchs
I think the Bilsteins are pretty tired. The ride is pretty rough over expansion joints and rough pavement. Can will be 80% street 20% track - with occassional use as family transport Would you spend the money on a suspension refresh with new shocks, bushings and slightly thicker t-bars or SSIs and an M&K

The suspension has obvious signs of needing a bit of freshening. I don't see that it is a contest. Get the bushings solid again, throw in some bars to match your 80%street/20%track, add some fresh shocks, and you are off and running in your "New" car.
BTW - Having a rough ride over bumps and cracks is most likely from some slop somewhere in the suspension. I would look for loose wheel bearings, dead suspension bushings, or worn out or loose shock bushings. Also the Bilsteins have a pretty long life and might just need a revalving...

Suspension then shop for SSI's down the road. Every once in a while they will be put on sale.

I have owned some pretty powerful cars; 66 Corvette 427/450 hp, BMW Dinan 5, 65 GTO. THey are great in straight lines but handling is so so. I got a Porsche because I wanted a great handling car. 0 to 60 is a rush but great handling is fun.

Personally I would rather have a car that handled properly then go for the performance gain of SSI's and M&K muffler.

You need sure handling as a priority. Everything else comes afterward.
