The BEST stuff to use for . . .
I am overwhelmed by the cumulative knowledge in this forum. In particular, although there is a tremendous amount of knowledge specific to 911's, the members are obviously trained or have substantive experience in many other areas - from engineering, fluid dynamics, electrical work, finish and body work - and years of shade tree mechanical work.
I think it would be very useful to assemble some non- specific to 911, but relevant to 911 maintenance/repair/restoration information about the following topics. So, to start the ball rolling, what is the consensus view on the: 1) Best De-greaser 2) Best Brake Fluid 3) Best Wax 4) Best Gasoline 5) Best Floor Jack 6) Best Transmission Oil 7) Best Engine Oil 8) Best Carpet Cleaner 9) Best Paint Stripper 10) Best Undercoating Remover 11) Best Primer 12) Best Oil Filter 13) Best Tire Cleaner 14) Best Rusty Bolt Penetrating Fluid 15) ???? |
The problem with this list.....there are about as many opinions as to which is the best of any one product as there are the number of people who have belly buttons...and boy did I clean that one up....I suggest doing a search for each of your ideas just to see how many you can narrow down to just one....I think you will find its impossible. BUT....it will make for some interesting reading for a few days at least.

Don is right, you're going to get a million opinions. I may a well give you some of mine up front.
I like Castrol GTX for dino oil and Mobil One for Synthetic. I don't use synthetic in my 30 year old Porsche but have since the beginning in my new-to-me 2002 Dodge Ram Quadcab 4x4 Carept Cleaner - Woolit Rug cleaner. The one for inside your house. None ofthe "automotive" types I've ever used came close. Degreaser - The Castrol Purple stuff is great though I've had very good results with the much cheaper gallon jug of neon yellow stuff you can buy at Harbor Freight for I think $9.99 a gallon. A lot for the money. Best Rusty Bolt Penetrating Oil - PB Blaster but I have heard very good things about Kroil Best Wax - I have my opinion but this is a loaded gun quuestion. I recently discovered claying through the sudsy water you use to wash the car (wash the real dirt off first then re-suds). That with 3M hand glaze makes my giant black truck shine nicely and no swirls. I find the wax after that doesn't matter as much. I use plain Mothers carnuba but recently tried Zaino and I've got to say I do like it a lot. |
generally Wurth chemicals will be second to none
Kroil is an xlnt penetrant ("bolt & nut 'loosener'") and stinks a lot less than pb Blaster BEST can sometimes be so expensive you cannot afford it - floor jacks might fall into that category also, light wt. ones for racing are nice even if not best in some other ways |
That's a lot of BEST...
