Question Need opinions on new interior on 87 911

Ok, I'm ready to start this project of replacing the entire interior of my 87 911 coupe.

I have contacted a company, Auto International, http://www.autosintl.com/ to supply the front leather seats and the carpet and the vinyl for the backseats and door and rear panels.

Has anyone had experience with this company? They were very helpful on the phone and are going to send me samples so I can be sure of the new color I am changing to.

I will do the carpet myself and have a local company install all the leather and vinyl.

While the interior is stripped, I want to put in a product called, silent running, http://www.silentrunning.us/html/sr_500.html and /or Second Skin Sound dampening mat, http://www.secondskinaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?p=ps&pg=1 on the doors and floor and side panels.

My Question is, do I need to, or should I, do both the Silent Running Paint AND the Second Skin, or just one or the other...and if not both, which one?

Here is the current interior, I'm changing from Champagne II (Yellow), to Cashmere Beige Tan. The exterior color is MarineBlau Metalic.

Thanks!!

I would call Cascade Audio Engineering. CAE
Very simular product
Doug the owner or his staff will give you the stright up goods from a technical side and then lead you to a retail store to purchase it.

I used a product similar to silent running. It will not match the sound deadening of the factory sound mat. Silent Running will mostly only deaden vibration.
Why do you want to replace the factory sound deadening? It doesn't sound like you're doing weight reduction but just freshening up the interior.

Correct, I'm not doing weight reduction. I don't care for the interior color and it needs new leather seats, so now is the time to do the whole interior. "Factory sound deadening?", where is it and what is it?
I have no idea what is under the carpet or on the exterior side of the floor panels. I'm a Newbie to P-cars as of 11/06.

There's plenty of factory sound deadening in the rear. It's behind the panels and seats. You shouldn't have to mess with it to change colors.

Thanks don911! I appreciate all the help I can get and this forum is THE place for great advice!

I just installed a SW chip and the car had WebCam 20/21 grind Cams installed 4k miles ago by the PO. I put another tail pipe on the right side on Monday and the muffler sound now is much lower and a little louder. It runs great and sounds great!
I will look at the panels and the area behind the rear seats and evaluate the condition of the factory material.
Thanks again!

Jerry,

When you replace the carpet, I might be interested in buying the old carpet if the condition is nice enough and it is removed without damage. I might also be interested in a few of the other odds and ends as well.

To answer your question about Autos International; they have a pretty good reputation in the Porsche community and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

Why don't you first feed and Lexol the leather, then pull the carpet in the drivers and passenger floor and run a carpet cleaner
over them and let dry out. Put the Lexol on ever time you get out of the car, then before driving it again buff it off with a bath towel.
Lots cheaper than complete replacement. Then when you are really ready, send the seats to the co. of your choice and have the
leather installed and seats shipped back. Makes a nicer install and looks factory.

Jerry: do you have the original shift knob? I am interest in a purchase if its Champagne and in good shape. Let me know what other pieces you have left after javadog has first crack at them.

Keith and Joe; I really want to change the interior color. There is nothing wrong with the Champagne color, it is just not what I would prefer and my wife has given the project her seal of approval, so it is time for me to do this!
I will put you on my "buddy" list, Joe, and I'll keep in touch. The shift knob is 20 years old and has 90k on it.
Thanks guys!
Jerry
