Quick Wheel Question

I have a 73 911 with SC flares in the back. I'm currently using 7x8x16 wheels with 205s in front and 245s in back. I want to get a set of track wheels/tires, and have come across a set of 7x8x16 Fuchs from a 944 Turbo. I know the offset is different, but will they work as well as my current wheels? Will I need spacers? Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom.

I ran into a guy at a concours who had a 83sc. With 8's in back. He said he moved the original 7's to the front and found some 8's off of a 944 turbo for the rears. The car looked great.

Jack,

From the above referenced web page, there are at least three different offset 8 x 16 Fuchs wheels used on various 944 models, but there are no part numbers shown, and one of the 944 applications is identical to the 'regular' 911 wheel. You may want to get a copy of the June '95 issue of Excellence for more details!

Bruce Anderson's Handbook lists one 944 Turbo wheel with 23.3 mm offset, that is, 12.7 mm (0.5") more offset than the 911 wheel ... 951.362.117.00.

Jack, those wheels will NOT work. You better give me number of the guy selling them so I can have a word with him.

Seriously, If you are going to use them for the track, Bruce Anderson recommends having them cracked checked, and with older wheels there may be a problem. You already have some great Fuchs, why not go for some BBS? Just a thought.

911 racers put those 8x16 944 turbo offset Fuchs in the *front* so they can get maximum rim width without flares. Those 23.3mm 8x16 rims look like 911 offset 7x16's from the outside.

Thanks, guys. It sounds like I should stick with the offset I've got -- since it works just fine. I'll wait for another set of early 911 Turbo 7s and 8s, and put some Hoosiers on 'em for track days.
