Go to the Porsches for sale forum...a ton of cars to choose from.
If using autotrader.com but stick to the private seller ads.

Not trying to belittle anyones car but I have to agree with Amir. Spend time looking and really think about the year you want to own.
There are always trade-offs either way you choose to go. For example, here's my '84 that I picked up for under $15K with 96K miles. Yeah, I put a bit of work into it but nothing significant and runs like a champ. ![]() ![]() Then here is the '96 I found for my wife only $25.5K with 66K miles ![]() You may want lower miles than either of these but remember lower mileage cars can have there own set of problems and if you drive them regularly that extra "value" can erode quickly. Good luck!

How did you get that 993 for so cheap. I have been looking at '96's with 60-70k and most are asking around $35k.

Howard,
The '84 is Kiln red. It's a metallic. The 993 was for sale about 5 miles from my house. It was posted on the board at my local shop. No stories on the car. The guy just wanted to get rid of it because he didn't drive it much and need to do some work on his house. Classic case of being at the right place at the right time. I think local shop owners can be one of the best resources. They know what's out there and who needs to sell. Not everybody realizes the potential of the internet yet.

Rob: you need to decide what car you want. There are major differences between a `78 and an `89. Your price range will buy a lot of nice cars. Don't focus on the wheels and seats. If you find a super nice car without them, they can be swapped out easily and fairly cheaply.
Do your homework on who to deal with (or should I say who to avoid dealing with). Don't forget a PPI with a totally independent shop (NOT the one suggested by the seller as with a well known place in TX). Look at Autotrader, carsearch, autobytel, autohopper, and 50 other places. Be patient and wait for the right one.

I have already had PPI done on two cars, when I was looking a few months ago, it saved me from buying some junk cars. Rob Last edited by 123456789; 11-05-2006 at 04:36 PM.. |

The 83 SC is a nice car, but ask yourself one question...
Why would a 22,xxx mile car, need to have had a new clutch?!?

Weren't the OEM clutches on the SC's the one's with the rubber center's that failed with low mileage anyway?

I'm sure it's a nice car, and there's nothing wrong with asking a price that high, but I'm going to call it like I see it. There are cars on the market that are more desirable (and by more desirable I mean newer, with less miles, in similar condition) for less $$$. Seems like a no-brainer. BTW, Rob, I'd wait just another month to 6 weeks and then get serious / aggressive about buying. The closer to winter we get, prices will dip a bit lower. $25K is a good amount to play with, consider getting a car for around 20 and personalising with the rest.

In a 20+ year old car, I look at condition almost as much as miles. Also strong records are a major plus.

i'm amazed that this car hasn't sold 10x's over nicely done mods, key ones that every porschepihle dreams of oneday doing. 1984 Porsche 911 Track-prepped, make offer!! kensis wheels, half cage, strut tower brace, really proven suspension setup, oil cooler, .... pelican member, obviously loved this car... no real down side that i can find... every time i look at it i say WOW, that seems like a great deal.... an honest steal... and i guess the mileage seems high.... but take a look, look @ the PPI....etc...

Advice: don't spend all your money on the purchase of the car. It is wise to keep some $$$ for the invevitable upgrades/maintenance. A perfectly good car can be had for well under $20k, leaving you with a lot of cash for your personal touches to the car.
