Home Covered RS Door Panels - Part 1
If you have been following my internal refurb posts, you will know that I have flat plastic door panels, as fitted by Tuthills to their rally cars.
I wanted to cover these to look more like an RS panel, so ordered foam and vinyl from Southbound. The original panels being plastic did present a problem in that you cannot staple in to them, so I decided to use gaffer tape and even a tiny bit of super glue ! Here is how I went about it :- 1. Lay the plastic panel over the foam and mark with a pen, then cut out. ![]() ![]() 2. I used some spray mount glue to loosely stick the foam to the plastic, and a few pieces of gaffer tape to hold the foam steady whilst I flipped it over on top of the vinyl. I then cut the vinyl slightly larger than the panel to allow it to be wrapped over and taped. ![]() ![]() ![]() 3. I then cut the hole for the window winder and pulled the vinyl through and glued. I then pushed a skewer through the original handle and mounting screw holes from behind to make a small hole in the vinyl. ![]() ![]() ![]() Part 2 can be read here :- Home Covered RS Door Panels - Part 2 Ian
