Targa Air Leak

I have a targa which has a small wind noise leak in the upper left corner. Its not too bad but would like to correct it. Is there any way to do it short of replacing the front seal which doesn't present a cosmetic problem when the top is off?

Any advice would be appreciated

Somebody had a "little square blocks of foam" idea recently that worked for him. Search the recent archives for that one. I don't think it was more than a week ago.

I have heard that attaching some thick weather stripping to the Targa top itself works in a pinch. Just make sure you use something that is easily removable so you can return the top to it's original configuration when the time comes. Also, your solution may not lie in the seal, but the top itself. Over time the tension on the targa tops can sometimes get out of alignment.

Consider yourself luck to only have a little air leak. My 78SC Targa leaks a little air, but not water surprisingly. When you say upper left corner do you mean that is where the air leak is from the outside or where you hear the air leaking into the inside? Or is it the area where the windwing joins the windshield? I wold be a little cautious of placing additional materials in the areas simply because I would not want my $$$ seals to conform to the new shape the additional materials would cause them to undertake. Anyways, god luck.

"freefly" has pointed to the most likely cause... the vinyl shrinks and raises the lips up to catch more air or exposes more of the seal than should be exposed and therefore it doesn't get to do it's job well... may be time for a top restore and/or new Targa seals.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. Tog the top is brand new (or at least the material is. But perhaps it wasn't installed correctly? I'll look real close tomorrow and see if there is a difference in the left or right side. I saw the sponge block idea but wasn't sure how it would look.

Paul I'm pretty sure its coming in betwen the bottom of the targa top and the windshield frame. It doesn't really start to make noise until you hit about 50 mph.

Think I'll try a little foam caulking backer and see if it improves. If it does maybe that means the seal has shrunk a little as tog suggested. If that's the case there goes 90 bucks!
