Which radio in 1983 for 911 SC option code 158
 

I have read every web page on the internet (took a while) and read every book I own. Both of them. Comic books, but still.

I cannot find what the option code 158 meant in 1983. I see lots of references to Monterey in 86 and Reno in 87, but not what it meant in 83.

Can anyone tell me what radio was delivered with my car ?

Hi James... I pulled my window sticker to look. No option code 158. Interesting, I haven't looked at this sticker in a while... still shocking!

I am jealous - I wish I had the speed control. I need it! :)

But that is good to know that the Monterey was even offered in 83. I couldn't previously confirm that. And the SQR 22 - I wonder how Blaupunkt numbered those. Their names and numbers seem to be all over the map.

It was definitely the Monterey, that was the only radio fitted at the factory in '83. Should be able to find one for a song on eBay, make it a search in your favorites and they will email you anytime one pops up on the site.

Hey guys, would the Monterey be the same unit that they would have fit in the 79SC?

While I am hassling you, I thought I would ask you to look at the sticker under the hood and see what option codes are on there... If there are any different from the sticker.

Also - what is the difference between Chiffon White and Grand Prix White ? Mine has paint code L908.

Any one know what the VT next to the paint code means (on the under-hood sticker) ?

Chiffon is off white, eggshell, whatever. Grand Prix White is refrigerator white.
My 83 SC is Chiffon, my RS America is Grand Prix.

Nope. Might have been a Blaupunkt Frankfurt, Bamberg or something labeled a Porsche CR stereo. The CR was optional on an SC.

Hi James...

I'll check the sticker under the hood over the weekend, the car is stored at another location.
The paint code for Chiffon White is P2V9... the other two letters are the interior code...VZ. (P2V9VZ) listed together.

The interior code VT for an '83 SC indicates that the interior was originally done in Grey-Beige leather for the seats, Grey-Beige leatherette (vinyl) for the side panels and Grey-Beige carpet.

Thanks - it is good to know the official color name. People kepts asking me, but I couldn't decide if it was Grey or Beige - now I know why I was so confused!

Where did you find this info ? I searched around on the internet and couldn't find ANYTHING on it.

You can find it in some books, or in the information that the dealers used to get every year from VWOA or PCNA, for ordering the cars.

A good book for your car would be "The 1974-1989 911, 912E & 930 Porsche" by Mark S. Haab. The "Original Porsche 911" by Peter Morgan is halfway decent, too.

The interior code VZ for an '83 SC indicates that the interior was originally done in Burgundy leather for the seats, Burgundy leatherette (vinyl) for the side panels and Burgundy carpet.

I should have clarified in my earlier post that the FRONT seats were leather. The rear seats were leatherette for both of these codes.

Thanks JR... I never knew exactly what the factory called my interior. It's a nice match with the Chiffon White. The majority of Chiffon White 911's I've ran across usually have brown interiors. Thanks again for your help.

It's pretty hard to find. There are some literature dealers that specialize in cars and you can occasionally find it on Ebay.

Hey James, I was looking for the original radio for my 1980 SC and I came across a Blaupunkt Reno radio Porsche option code M158 over on ebay. Copy/Paste the following item# into a search on Ebay (for some reason I cannot create a direct link to page);

or type in Blaupunkt Reno. Should be the first one. Hope this helps out.
