Front strut housing driving me crazy

About a year and a half ago I bought strut housings for my 70 914. I bought the housings from a 72 911T, or so I thought. I have finally gotten around to installing them but I don't have the hub clamp nut. At first I forgot what year the housings were, so I ordered the wrong nut. Now I have ordered the nut for the 72 911T and it doesn't fit. I actually destroyed one trying to make it fit. What is going on? It appears that the diameter of the nut is a little too small. The threads on the strut housing are in perfect condition, and so were the nuts. The part number that I got for the clamp nut is, 914-341-671-00. Does it matter if the 911 it a regular 911 or a 911T? Could it be from a 73 911? Are they different? The bolt holes for the caliper measure 3 inches from center to center. I was told that some measure different from different years.

Please help me before I throw these housing in the trash!
