Wayne & Family are going to be on ABC World News Tonight on Sunday!

Hi everyone. ABC was here at my house on Tuesday interviewing me and my wife, and taking video of our kids - they are doing a piece on college savings plans (529 plans), and were looking for a family with young kids to talk about the plans on camera. They shot about four hours worth of tape on Tuesday, and it's supposed to air with World News Tonight on ABC (I think it's on at 5:30 PM on Sunday).

Then, on Monday, there's a related article in USA Today regarding 529 plans that will supposedly have a photo of us, or my son or daughter, and some quotes from yours truly.

Not sure how they found us, but pretty cool to get your 15 minutes of fame...

dont take this the wrong way..

perhaps they should do a story based on a typical "middle class working family" and their ideas/issues with regards to 529K plans... seems more appropriate given the skyrocketing cost of college tuition these days.

Our financial planner gets requests all the time. We sent him some pics of the kids, and apparently, they are cute enough for TV / newspapers! It has to be them (or my wife), certainly not me...

I did also mention that we were able to save a lot more for college this year, because we're renting, and not owning (saves about $3-$4K per month over the cost of owning!)

Yes, I sortof thought that as well. But who am I to judge their methods? The USA Today people spoke with me at length on the phone, so they knew that we weren't exactly "typical". Oh well?

So, what's the scoop on the 529s? Ive asked this before here on OT and got zero response. Im definitely middle class, and I have one for my 2yr old. Seems like a better deal than a 401k to me.

You are right about renting vs. buying here in So Cal...
Someone asked me recently why I dont have a house...
and Im like "are you kidding?" I remember the repair
work and chores I was doing every weekend when I did
own a house + as you mention, the savings by renting here in
So Cal puts the money to so much better use...but everyone
seems to be locked into this home ownership buzz... anyway
will tune in tomorrow.

They are somewhat complicated at first, but simple to understand after a few facts are known. Watch the segment, and then what doesn't get cut, I'll post here. I got all of my info from my advisor, he's really good at keeping people from making mistakes...
