86 ...86 speedo

Hi
Can anyones can tell me the easy ways to check the defect speedometer or sensor??
My speedometer stop working.....Thanks
I have the 1986 911 carrera

Porsche Crest

1. Put the back end up on jack stands.

2. Pull cover over the shift coupler at the rear of the tunnel.

3. Locate two wires with Faston disconnects ... that go to the sender. They will be routed inside the bellows covering the shift rod.

4. Connect test leads from multimeter set to low Ohms or continuity function to sender leads ... rotate a rear wheel exactly one revolution and look for eight transitions from no continuity to continuity of less than 1.0 Ohm.

The cover is in the back seat floor...Right

Nope. The only contacts are the magnetic reed contacts inside the sender on the transaxle ... triggered by the magnets on the carrier wheel attached to the differential.
