New Top on 84 Carerra Cab
I am new to a 1984 Carerra Cab. It came with a new OEM top that needs to be installed. I am not particularly handy but am starting to learn. Is replacing the top a job I can do with a buddy in an afternoon, or should I have it professionally installed? Are there any special tools required or tricks to installing it if I do it myself? It doesn't look that hard, but I would hate to start something I couldn't finish. Thanks,

Muhahahahah.
You want to install a Cab top? Only if you are insane. Allocate 25 hours, and come back for tips. It's a total nightmare. My advice is to Pay the 600 bucks and have a pro install it. I have 1st hand knowledge and can definitely relate to "it doesn't look that hard." It will go on of course. But what will happen is, your plastic rear window will have wrinkles in it AFTER you make the holes and have everything together. I don't even know where to start on the problems. ------------------ Kurt B 1984 911 Carrera Cabriolet 75 914 1.8 [This message has been edited by Kurt B (edited 12-06-2000).] |

I had an 83sc cab and had the top replaced. It is a bear to do. If you have never done a top before, go to an expert. The guy who did mine had been doing tops for 35yrs. He said every 911 he ever did was tough and need many fine adjustments. It's even harder to get everything to fit correctly if your doing the weather stripping at the same time.

Thanks a lot. My wife was bugging me to spend the money and get it done right. I was planning on trying it to save few bucks. I will consider this money well spent. Thanks again.
