Finally found a honest shop/mechanic

With all the rip-off shops an bad mechanics out their I wanted to complement Precision Automotive here in Vegas(the owner is a PCA member) for fixing the mistakes I caused to my SC

My car had a bad miss along with backfiring much like a broken valve spring and also had an air leak causing a erratic idle

The shop could have easily charged me for a new inner valve spring since I was not there to inspect it but the car had a stumble or pop with symptpoms of it but it turned out after I had adjusted my valves when I rebuilt my trans I did'nt tighten the lock nuts enough and 2 valves had worked so loose the result left 95lbs compression in 2 cyls, all was needed was a proper adjustment (which the mechanic told me your valves should make no noise when adjusted properly) new plugs (I had just replaced with Bosch PLatinums turns out they are junk and cause misfiring and fouling) and tightening of an intake runner (I must have pulled it loose while grabbing The engine)

The result my car has proper compression (145LBS in each cyl) and runs like a dream

They could have easily charged me much more than the $420 I would never have known the difference if they did the work or not and would have gladly paid more to get my car running back to the way it does

Bosch Platinums are a perfect example of the power of marketing and suggestive words ("platinum"=expensive=must be good).
Bosch Platinums are total junk. But, for some reason, people continue to refuse to believe it.
Oh well.

I agree that the marketing is what sells Platinums, and that the price you pay is extreme.

However, it's a fact that there is less resistance in platinum. Gold is another high-conductivity metal, as is silver. Copper, a common conductor, is also pretty conductive.

What benefit does this give you in terms of performance? A better question is "is it even measurable?"

It's like paying for an ocean of performance, and winding up with a teaspoon of water to wash down the bitter pill of your empty wallet.

JR, congrats! A good wrench is hard to find.

The only advantage to Platinums is that they last much longer. The platinum does not erode like the conventional plugs do from use. If you change your plugs often, there is NO performance gain. They also are usually too cold, and hence the fouling problems.
