Thinking of selling - 89 3.2

Am thinking of selling the old p-car. Its been a weekend car and I just don't have the time it really deserves so its better that it goes to someone who'll appreciate it more.

I don't have any picture yet. But some specifics are:

Guards red Targa
Better than average paint and exterior (some dings)
Bought it from a Porsche dealer in 2000 with 46k miles. It now has ~ 56k miles.

Steve Wong chip
MoMo Steering wheel

What's the interest level?

The car is in California Bay area (San Jose/Santa Clara). Don't know what the latest Excellence price update for the car is; but, I would say given the mileage, I'm looking at somewhere in the neighbohood of $18k - $20k.

Your price sounds about right for a Targa with that low of miles...shouldn't have a problem selling it if it's in nice shape.

With all due respects I have two words to that opinion... B and S. These are weekend drivers at this age and great ones at that. They still accept engine and suspension upgrades as well as coupes (mine "dynoyed" at near 250 hp after some upgrades) with the benefit of open air driving without the cabs replacement cost every 10 years. I think the price can be even if the targa roof is in very good shape along with the rest of the car. Don't get me wrong on this subject, the targa may be a better weekend thrill and looks great but IMO the coupe is still the classic plus no roof maintanance.

Well, I own a Red Targa......If you look at a history of sales:

1) Targas bring less than Coupe's and Cab's
2) Red is not a desirable color

Not opinion, documented fact, even though I luv mine.......Best of luck on your sale, sounds like a good car...

18-20 is a reasonable range. You will sell the car. Maybe not immediately but it will sell- maybe it will sell quickly, who knows
. If it is clean there are guys who want red and want targas. Low mileage, if well maintained, you're set.
a low mileage (56k) g50 targa well kept is an 18-20 car- period, certainly in that range.

Not everyone in the buying market is on this board or looking to low ball someone because they are on this board all day and night and think (or in fact do know) every little intricate bit of the Porsche buying/selling world. Some people (not necessarily porsche freaks like many of us) just want a nice clean low mileage classic and this car sounds like it is exactly that.

Good luck seller.

Snaga61,

How about just trying to drive the car a bit more; perhaps you might decide to hang onto it!

Regards,
David

I would push for asking more...as I hear it there are few G50 3.2 cars out there in good condition and very few in the Bay Area...
I'm with David, just drive the thing and enjoy. That's what I'm doing after pretty much rebuilding the engine/etc. the car is running very nice and I drive it everyday, do DE's and AX's. I also use it to teach my sons how to drive, they must do AX and DE or they don't get another car and have to drive the old Volvo...so they get motivated ;-)

There are many people who like red cars, just as there are people who like blue. I'd fix the dings with a paintless dent removal service and detail the car if necessary. No one (except me ) likes to bring home a new purchase with visable flaws. Can you imagine telling the neighbor, "Yeah, it's only got 56 thousand on it, great for an 18 year old car!" While the neighbor is looking at the dinged up door thinking his own thoughts.

I'm with milt, try to fix the exterior and it will show better. The targa won't work too much against you since you live in CA. I'm in FL with my targa and I wouldn't trade it for a coupe, even though I prefer the coupes lines. Maybe I should just buy one of each.... Anyway, nothing like a spirited drive with the top off.
