These are a sequence of photo's of a friend mine (Navigator) having a big off at Targa Tasmania 2011 in a GT2 on the Riana stage jump. According to John the data says they took off over the crest at 229 kmh and upon landing as you can see the rear left tyre blew. The images were not taken by me but are the excellent work of Perfect Prints in Hobart Tasmania who take some great shots of Targa Tas and the various other Targa events around the country each year and come via Tarmac Magazine.

The caption reads

"As featured in Tarmac 12, here is the full sequence of Greg Garwood's crash on the Riana stage jump, during Targa Tasmania 2011, where he and navigator John Allen burst a tyre on their Porsche 911 GT2, crashed and ended up in a nearby dam."

Both were okay although Greg suffered a back injury that caused some concern and both took some time to recuperate before their next events. BTW at the time I'm pretty sure they were in third outright pushing hard to catch the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo of Jason and John White and the Nissan GTR of Tony Quinn.

Cheers Q

That's another reason I don't like low profile tires. Any bump and it's off the rim!
