				quick help! fuel filters

I just took out my fuel-filter/accumulator for the first time, and faintly on the side I read "KL-21". My fuel-filter at hand is a KL-22, are the parts completely swappable? It's a stock 82 SC, 3.0 CIS motor.

Extra question: the nut on the bottom of the fuel filter... there's a big brass one that the attachment on the tube going to the accumulator screws into. Do either of those spin, or do I rotate the accumulator around the filter a bunch of times? Thanks! I gotta drive this thing in 45 minutes... Babak |

KL-22 is what Ihave on my SC.

Just loosen the nuts on the top and bottom of the filter, remove it and install the new one . Very simple. Jeez, you may want to give yourself a bit more time next go around. ![]() Hope this helps.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads9/911SC+fuel+hose+fix+0031161197538.jpg does the brass fitting on the bottom of the filter swivel at all? I'm guessing that I turn the piece below it counter-clockwise, moving the whole tube... Thanks! Babak |

The fiting on the line from the accumulator to the bottom of the filter spins on the hardline, just use a wrench on the filter fitting and the hardline fitting.

The nut on the top of the filter goes to the engine. Same technique used on those. Be aware, you WILL get some spillage as the lines are disconnected. Use some towels around the filter.

I think I'll give up on this for the evening, and reinstall the old filter. Alas. Thanks for the help though Wayne.

Just to be sure, the highlighted part of this picture is the part that needs to turn counter-clockwise? I'd swear the brass fitting was turning a bit with respect to the filter too. Babak |

Are you using line wrenches? If not, you will strip the nut.

Depending onhow long this one has been on, you may need to use some penetrant on the fittings. Try BlasterPB.

Hmm, I'm such a noob - I don't know what a line wrench is. I've been using a 17mm to turn the fitting and a 19mm to hold the filter, seen in the picture... Babak |

Good idea to wait on this.

the brass fitting may turn some and that's okay. You could just remove that as long as the hardline fitting spins freely on the line. If you do that you should use a thread sealant when you reinstall it. Use pipe dope not tape.

No sweat. A line wrench is similar to a closed end wrench except for a notch left open to slip it over a line. It really helps as it applies more torque on the sides of the fitting helping to keep from stripping the edges.

You should consider purchasing "101 Projects for your 911",written by our host, Wayne Dempsey. Hope the rest of your night goes better. Hot date?

'Flare Nut Wrench' is the proper term.

Whew, all put back together! I followed Dempsey's advice and did a fuel-leak check with the ignition half-turned, then started her up after a little sputtering. After a couple seconds, no smell of gas. Time to head to the city! The date - if I can still call her that - has some fine mac and cheese awaitin'.

Buy a whole set of the flare nut wrenches. You will use them on numerous fittings on a 911. Most come with two sizes per wrench so a set of 5 or 6 should be perfect.
