I may have done a stupid thing
I impulsively just bought a set of C4 calipers and rotors on eBay. Does anyone know if these will work with my 16-inch wheels and stock rear trailing a-arms and Boge struts?
Am I going to be selling a set of C4 brakes on eBay soon? Here's what I bought. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe |

I believe you can get adapters to mount the calipers. C2's came with 16" wheels, so clearance won't be a problem. The rotors though, I don't know.

BTW Jack, how's the tail coming? And just how big IS your budget for this project? Also, who do you write for? Your profile says you're a writer.

MOTION, I would love to post pics but I don't as of yet have a digital camara.
![]() Hey wait. I just realized one of my friends does and he has a website with an old photo. Maybe I'll stop by his house and have him update it ( My car is almost completed, just needs paint) so I can post it. It will be awhile as I'm going on vacation to Puerta Vallarta tomorrow morning and won't be back until the 16th. Well I gotta go finish packing. Adios. ------------------ Tyson Schmidt 72 911 cabriolet (964 bodywork) |

First, are these to mount on the rear. Second, are these stock C-4 rear brakes.
Third, have you upgraded the front brakes yet, if not whats up there. These look like HUGE rear brakes, if they are not balanced with HUGER front brakes and a larger volume master cylinder you might have problems. These are just thoughts about how things work , one of the other boardies will have to help you on the bolt on aspect. Might call the Racers Group, and ask some questions if no one on the board has been there done that. Randy Jones 1971 911 |

Randy, it's a full set from a 90 C4, fronts and rears.
Tyson, I got the old decklid off, fitted the new one (looks great), but that's where it stopped. Going to have to fabricate some kind of fancy hinge deal if I want to be able to put either the old-style or the new-style decklid on. I feel like a gal who can't settle on one pair of shoes. So the ducktail is back for this weekend. I write for movies -- and also recently set up a television pilot with CBS. And, since today was my birthday, events just came together so that I saw the brakes and decided they'd be a good gift to me. If they don't fit, well, that will suck. The budget for the car took another jump with the brake decision. My girlfriend -- who also writes for TV -- is less enthusiastic about the decision to up the car's budget. She wants to fix up the back yard. Enjoy Puerta Vallarta, by the way. I haven't gotten a vacation (except track days) in four freakin' years. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe |

Jack,
I have the same front calipers on my '76 Carrera 3.0. It had the standard 2 piston A steel calipers before. I had to ovalise the lower mounting hole, as the spacing is 5mmless on the car. Some people do some welding to fill the empty part of the hole, I just used STRONG washers and longer bolts. So far, 2000 miles no problem. I used 3.2 discs all around, and 3.2 calipers in the rear. The balance is not upset. Your discs seem wrong for the front at least. You could keep what you need and sell the rest. If the rear are 4 pistons, the people with C2s will want to buy them, as the early C2s had 2 piston rear calipers that used to eat the pads real quick. I had the idea from my (racing a lot) mechanic. He says it was the best upgrade for the money. Hope this helps, GeorgeK [This message has been edited by GeorgeK (edited 12-09-2000).] |

There are 2 ways you can go here, the front calipers can be modified, slight repositioning of the mounting holes is necessary. The problem will be that better braking comes more from larger rotors. To use the 304x32mm turbo size rotors an adaptor and significant machining to the caliper are needed, Dick Arno at VCI may be able to help you here. The frt rotors you bought will not fit. You will need to buy a flat Al. adaptor to bolt either 78-89 factory turbo or Coleman replacement rotors to your stock hubs. In the back the calipers will fit easily by plugging the oem mounts and redrilling, that is if oem 930 299x28 rotors are used. I couldn't tell from the photo if the ones you bought are correct but I suspect not. The backing plates will need to be discarded. email me if you want pics. The set up on my car is your calipers with the 930 rotors. You will also need the 23mm M.B. master cylinder.
