No air injection ports 1982SC

Could it be that the heads on my 1982 don't have ports for air injection and therefore no plugs?

I was looking for a missing plug due to a strange exhaust noise.

Thanks

^^^

Will, might be wise to pull the valve covers and look for evidence of a broken head stud - unfortunately, the exhaust noise you mentioned is often an indicator of that.

That's my next move. Going to drain oil and pull lower covers.

Thanks Ronnie.

You don't need to drain the oil. Just jack up one side and take off the valve cover on that side. No oil runs out if you do that. Then repeat for the other side. On the other hand, if you were changing the oil anyway...

Maybe to be mentioned, that you have to Jack it up way high.
I did the same, jacking it to about 10cm the tire off the groud and I had quite some oil pooring out.
Luckily I had an oilcatchtank at armlength handy.

Thanks fellas. I'm a little leery of jack stands for this (just my personal wuss side). I have a quickjack that works great for this stuff:

It gets it up pretty good (go Ronnie!)

Anyway, oil drained and lower valve covers come off later this weekend.

And the verdict (I think) is in. All is well it seems but I just realized that I did not confirm the two most outward studs in each bank. Ugh.

Passengers side

An unexpected guest…probably need to drive he car more:

Drivers side:

Nothing fell out. Only thing I noticed was some play (loose) in #1 exhaust valve. Could that cause an excessive exhaust noise? How critical to get it to spec?

Thanks everyone!

Will
