cylinders

I have honed cast iron cylinders for new rings (deves) with great sucess. However I have never found a method written on how to do Niskil or Ausil (sp?). The answer is aleways "send them off" . Any ideas on the procedure do it your self.

Thanks

If I remember correctly, Bruce Anderson has written about this sometime in the past in Excellence, and I believe he said you don't really 'hone'them, you just use a glaze breaker and plenty of lubricant like cutting oil or kerosene. My thoughts are that the 'grape-stone-in-a-bundle' type of glaze breaker would be the most satisfactory type to use.

When I did my engine rebuilding (1978 911 SC Targa 3.0) I was concerned about the cylinders being sylicone impregnated. I didn't do anything to the cylinders when I put the engine together and reinstalled it.

Well, I didn't have any compression. So, I removed the engine, pulled off the cylinders and used oil and emory paper to remove the glaze. Still not sure if they are sylicone impregnated, but have 8000 on the engine and it still runs like a top.
