What IRRITATES you more about a Website???
I just checked a couple of 'new' URL's from Excellence advertisers, and to say the least, was disappointed and irritated! One went to a 'Under Construction' banner from the service provider, and the other went to a rather 'bare' site with maybe five pages an not much more info than in their print ad. So the question is, which is more irritating, a site that doesn't exist in a useful form, but is shown in a print ad, or a print ad with no website???
Comments, anyone? ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

In my opinion times have chaged so much, take this site for example, without most of us will have a clue about it,when we need parts whats the first thing that comes to mind the PC and maybe Pelican have it,since we came from all over the U S,a well maintain site will make most of us belive that the company can be trusted(most times). I have been in your position before and if the site is not good i never return never mind doing business, just my cents.
Keep up the good work.. Regards JUAN http://www.geocities.com/titos88911/MY911.html |

I think a few companies have sites just to feel that they are legitimate. Ever try Tweeks? All their site is is a way to enter numbers off their catalog with no online catalog of their own. I also view companies with very elaborate websites as having elaborate overhead also. Performance products has a great site, but does anyone use it? So I guess my answer is the company itself and if they are knowledgable is what I look for. If they don't have an 800 number is a bad sign. Also if they surcharge credit cards, (Vertex). I think the real sign is how they handle returns and back orders. I've purchased many items from AJUsa and after the latest return, I'm convinced they are run by morons. Before that I had a good impression of them. I think alot of us have questions about possible upgrades we may want to do. I honestly will call several vendors and talk not to buy but gather information. It is no coincidence that the one that give my the best advice and talk to are usually the ones I buy from. There is a guy at www.Strasseusa.com I spoke to a few months ago about torsion bar sizes. When I called him back a week later he remembered my name, car, and equipment we were talking about. A nice guy. I don't see this at Windward.

Probably the most irratating things about websites is a "search" function that doesn't do squat-one that's never able to find a simple product, or comes back with a gazillion matches , most of which don't have a damn thing to do with what you're looking for. That, and websites that don't have an intuitive, logical layout that's easy to navigate-we've all gotten lost in these type of sites and eventually given up looking for whatever we went there for in the first place.

For me it's the an ad that has a web site and you enter it and it's just another ad with the same information.
I look a the web as a method of communication addtional information about products and services that is to costly to purt in a print ad. The ones that have no web site I usually don't contact anymore. I like to see that the company is serious enough about their business to provide me more information via the web. Todd |

Yea,
I've come across the same ads w/out sites, but are pushing the fact they have one in a magazine. Perhaps their hoping you wouldnt call their "big buisness bluff", and just give em' your cash. It's either that, or squaters rights on sites/names/logos that they think are so perfect. Take care....Rsc |

Yeah, and add's that say "phone for latest prices". It's very easy for a company to keep up to date prices on their web site. They can even edit a document in Word, save as html, and upload it. 10 minutes work.

The thing I hate the most is the browswer traps where multiple windows open up
Graphic intensive sites that take longer to load and EPECIALLY the ones that put the cute little MIDI songs that freeze up your computer for a munite or so while they load and you are forced to listen to their little song I also hate the call for more info with no pricing or omitting a contact ph# for them with the only way to contact is thru e-mail [This message has been edited by jryerson (edited 12-10-2000).] |

The most annoying part on a homepage is if it's UNRELIABLE. I hate it when it loads at a speed so slow that you're going crazy. Even worse if it loads for a looong time only to end up showing the message "page not found". Usually this happens with pages that you often visit and therefore know should work fine. Yet still it doesn't.
Guess what! I'm having those problems right now. I want to check my e-mail at porschezone.com, but it just loads for 20 minuttes and ends up telling me I made a typo or something. I did not !!! ![]() [This message has been edited by Mikkel (edited 12-11-2000).] |

I too was reading the latest Excellence on a plane ride to work, madly scribbling down new web sites to try out
![]() But then discovered the same thing Warren did, where their hype on print can't match their website. ![]() If your website doesn't add any value to the printed add, I don't want it! Ted ------------------ '80 911-SC Targa |

Do not forget the websites that have lots of links and a majority of them do not exist anymore.
I really wish that these sites would update their links on a regular basis. I email the webmaster when I find one and assume that others do the same but its never changed. I have to say that the Pelican Parts site is one of the better sites I have found. JA |

I too think it is interesting that Tweeks renamed themselves "Tweeks.com" and went to all the trouble to hype up the site...and it is really really useless. On the flipside, they handled my order with their pathetic front end. Pelican, with their complicated/high tech site, search engine, and ordering interface- they completely muffed my order up when I tried to get some parts. What'll I do in the future? I won't use
My graduate school (NCSU College of Management) has some profs. working on a paper on this exact topic. After security/privacy policy, the customer service backing up the site itself was one of the most important aspects that their survey discovered. -d ------------------ Dave -------------- http://members.nbci.com/dtwinters/garage/ |

In addition to not having the price listed on teh web site, or the "call for other products", the most irritating thing is not being able to delete a double post from a web site. I mean, I can't help it if i'm impatient.

Being a relatively new Porsche owner, I have spent many an hour surfing the web looking for good sites. Pelican Parts is by far the best. It's not necessarily the on-line catalog or decent prices (which is great mind you), but what makes it for me is the bulletin boards and tech articles sections. I've had several questions answered (or at least been steered in the right direction) that would have put lots of money in some mechanics pocket.
