SSI's and HP
I have an '81 SC Targa. Would SSI's benefit my performance. Supposedly I have 180 hp. I've heard rumors of 18-20 hp gain. Is this true? This is the first sports car I have ever owned. What does an 18 hp gain feel like? Is it worth it? Also what all is referred to when talking about SSI's, ie... catalytic converter, headers, muffler?

According to SSI, this will give an average of 23 Hp gain, at a midrange of RPM. I have read that Hp gains of 5 or more are quite noticible to the driver, so I would imagine that 23 or more would make a HUGE difference. Although I have not done this yet, it is on my list. After tensioners, suspension bushings and shocks, turbo tie-rods...you get the picture!

You should have 180HP (DIN) stock, you will get to 200hp or better with the SSI upgrade, you will feel it, and you will like it. I know I do.

I am doing the swap this week. Anyone have the part # for the oil line or a picture? I believe I have the right one, but want to confirm it.....nothing worse then being in the middle of the job and finding that what you have is the wrong part.
Thanks in advance.... Michael 83 euro cab mtz1@home.com PS...I will report back with my seat of the pants reaction to the HP gain... |
