Fabspeed Muffler/Cat bypass install

Well how long can I drag this out:

I basically started tonight. Huge Doses of wd-40 and sea-foam penetrator on the offending bolts of the exhaust. Bolts look good much different from the photos I have seen on others. DOH forgot to take pics will take pics when I dose the bolts again.

Cheers fellas Good night

Second Installment of the quest for....................whatever

I applied more liberal doses of sea foam and wd-40.

I scrapped of some rust and dirt and had some sent to the lab for a quick break down of the offending particles.

I also tested the rear 3 nuts and bolts and found that they were easily broken loose.

I think I will take off the muffler tonight..........if I can call my assitants

No assistants. But I popped off the muffler. Bolts needs some minor tugs The muffler stap bolts are another story the drivers side came off easily the passenger side I broke.......I'll be needing it if and when I return to the stock muffler.

After removing the offending muffler I decided to take her for a spin.

LOUD ouch! reverberation through the cockpit was horrible the cat was not piped out of the body of the car. Basically sound like ****e.

Stay tuned.

WD-40 is worthless for stuff like this... the liquids to use are PB Blaster, Kroil, or Wurth Rost-Off ! .

Still...any liquid may not be adequate. Need Oxy/Acetylene HEAT ......

When done, look to my posts on using USA-size ( easier to get) 5/16" dia.... x 18 pitch stainless bolts, 1.5" long under head...with Silicon/Bronze nuts. Still uses the same 12-13 mm wrench to tighten/loosen. No rust, no hassles, no anti-seize "goo".

When I replaced my cat/muffler I just used a die grinder with a cutting disc. Sliced off the nut and bolt ends.

You going to want to replace them all anyway. Why bother trying to
save them.

Ditto - you are wasting your time - a cut-off wheel on the die grinder takes about 5 minutes - not like you are going to reuse them anyway...no die grinder? Dremel makes quick work also.

Did the same. so much faster, and new bolts are cheap.

Loaded, I just did the same thing this past weekend. I put on a bypass and a 2 out fabspeed. It is definitely much, much, much louder. I'd like to get your opinion of the sound. Are you converting to 2 out?

Like you I started the engine without either the cat or the muffler, just for kicks and wow its loud. My nice little nieghbors won't be sending me a christmas card this year.

Not yet, but I read your other post that you just put in Steve's chip. I will be ordering mine here in the next couple weeks. Be sure to re-post and let me know what you think.

What about the fabspeed? 2 out conversion or capped?

disfin 02-20-2007 11:54 AM

Well, then that will certainly be loud!
