I need a trashed horn grille from an early car.
Update:Got some from Shaun. Thanks to all that replied.
Plastic or metal, broken, fins missing, anything goes as long as I can use the overall unit to help design some custom ones. Please email thru my user name (click on it) Last edited by milt; 09-27-2007 at 08:47 AM.. |

It's not clear what you are intending. But, I can tell you that after trying to get two originals for my car, there are quite a few different ones out there. In addition to the 4 screw early ones and the 2 screw late ones, there are a number of differences I noticed in the 2 screw later ones. It appears that the aftermarket ones are slightly narrower. Not much. But, enough that when they are put on, there is a noticeable gap either on one side or the other - that is, line it up along the trunk side, and you have a big gap between the grille and the lens. Line it up along the lens, and you have a funny gap near the trunk.
Also, the fins end differently. It appears to me that the factory original fins are slighly filed at the ends of the fins, while the aftermarket ones have a straight cut edge, with no filing done. From what I've been told, though I haven't confirmed it, the 72s are unique too. Everyone knows the 73s are black plastic. And the ealier chrome ones are metal. But, I've been told that the factory 72s are chromed plastic, not chromed metal. I haven't had one in my hands. I don't know how they are sized compared to the others. I don't know if any of this helps you in getting what you need. Thought I'd throw it out though. |

Secondly, I'm sorry my email doesn't work. I can use others quite well if they take email. I thought my stetting were OK. In fact, I did receive one email about the grilles. Now, to address the above: I appreciate the knowledge set forth. In my case, it doesn't matter much because I will be making an all new design to fit a different size opening. See pic: ![]() I plan on starting with some aluminum flat stock, cutting shapes for sides and fins, then TIG'ing up followed by polishing. Should be very retro looking. Yes. Milt-
I've got a pair of ugly ones with silver paint on them. Two hole, from my '70. Let me know if they might work. -Scott
