Picture gallery of owners/cars?
I was thinking it would be nice to have a picture gallery, so we can put a face to all the posts. Any ideas on how it could be accomplished?
Any Access web developers out there who want to volunteer their expertise and server space? -Richard '84 Carrera Cab '74 Coupe |

I've said this a couple of times.
A long time ago we did have a guy who donated part of his website space to storing pics of Pelican Parts 911 BBS guys cars. My PC crashed and I lost the web address and I haven't seen him (Gruvsisco (sp?))in alog time. I wonder if there is any way we could cumulatively convince Pelican to create a small page for pics of our cars so we can put a car to everyones name. It would be neat. ------------------ Leland Pate ___79 SC Targa |

Agreed, an excellent idea...how about an annual event where we have a "Pelican Parts" rally...we all meet in Texas at Warrens house and swap stories for the weekend, throw in an autocross and some tech sessions to boot..I'll buy the 1st 6 pack.

www.geocities.com will provide around 4MB of free space...someone just has to fill out the registration and construct the page.

I think a PP BBS BBQ at Warren's would be the event of the season. I'd buy a keg of good beer. And some rib eye steaks (the only kind to BBQ).

I have my own servers and essentially unlimited space. (My time is the biggest constraint right now.) I suspect Pelican would help build and host the page(s), but if not, I might be able to toss something together. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Thanks Chris! I too think that it would a lot of fun to have a profile type page for the members - pics, plans, experiences with parts and vendors etc. I know nothing of web design but would be willing to help in any way I can.

Folks - What we need here is a database-driven site. This would allow for individuals to create a profile, then update it as necessary, with the capability of uploading photo(s).
It needs to be created with Microsoft Access, then hosted on a server with Access capability. I believe I recall several IS types on the board, so hopefully one of them will trip across this post. |

Yep if I'm the one to tackle it, I'd hook it up to an Oracle back end and use ASP or JSP to power the site. But this stuff can get very involved (security issues could be a real pain), so we should dig around first to see if somebody's already got suitable code and/or a web site already built. I recall one of the early "S" registry sites having something like this already up...

I think I may have found someone to do it, and it can be hosted within one of my hosting accounts... unless someone else steps forward....
Will keep you all updated. |

What info to include for each member? Here are a few I can think of: 1) Member real name 2) Member pelican board name 3) City/State 4) Email address 5) Vehicle(s) description 6) Photo(s) 7) Link URL to homepage Any other data that might be relevant? |

Here you go, Juan: http://www.geocities.com/titos88911turbo (I edited the link slightly because Yahoo says your photo page doesn't exist)-and I cast another vote for the big party at Warren's-he's only a couple hundred miles away from me (pratically around the corner by Texas standards)-and I'll make the Margaritas. Should we shoot for sometime in the spring?
Oh yeah, here's the link to MY website- http://www.geocities.com/the912guy [This message has been edited by ClayMcguill (edited 12-07-2000).] [This message has been edited by ClayMcguill (edited 12-07-2000).] [This message has been edited by ClayMcguill (edited 12-07-2000).] [This message has been edited by ClayMcguill (edited 12-07-2000).](Wow, looks like I'm going for an edit record, or something) [This message has been edited by ClayMcguill (edited 12-07-2000).] |
