Grease Gun/Setup for ER PolyBronze Bushings
 

I seem to be having an issue greasing the rear PB bushings. Greasing the inner nipple (the one closest to the car body) is impossible due to lack of clearance. Luckily (or unluckily), my 30 year old hand-cranked grease gun died on me after 5 minutes of attempt; I think the rubber stem finally cracked. BTW, my dead unit is the 'needle' type.

What kind of grease gun/setup do you guys have to access the inner nipple?

I'm just using a gun with a flex line. Is your fitting centered in the bushing? One of mine isn't centered as well as it could be so that one is a little tight but I was still able to hook up to it.

Have you tried a right angle fitting for your grease gun?

Both are available at Harbor Freight for just a few bucks. Kragen.com has them also, but they're more expensive.

Combined with a flexible hose, one of these might solve your problem.

One of my rear nipples gave me a bit of trouble and I found that the right angle fitting (on a flex line) worked better in my situation.

Use a flush type grease fitting on your gun. It is a little tricky till you get the hang of it. Just put the tip of the fitting in the end of the zerk and press hard. It works.

Is there a preferred grease to use?

I have Poly bushings up front and Neatrix for the rears.

I use Redline on my poly-bronze bearings (it's the grease I keep on hand), but any good grease should suffice imo.

You can also attach a needle fitting to your gun and then slip the needle inside of the zirk fitting. A little on the messy side, but at least it gets in there.

Scott, thanks for the info on tips. For what it's worth, I have been into at least three different Kragens asking about alternate fittings and they all said they had no clue. YMMV of course.

Do you have the PB bushings? I am soliciting for 'actual experiences.' Those fittings are also at PepBoys. I want to make sure that what I buy will work.

I'll stop by HF so that if it does not work, it would be less $$ wasted.

The right-angle one was the one I was eyeing as the best candidate. Did you have clearance issue? Can it be cut shorter, if needed?

I wonder if Chuck has any insight on this one? If anyone can figure it out, well rumor has it he's come up with a few inovations???

I use a regular, straight, rigid gun tip. I did touch the side of the tip to a grinder to make it easier to fit next to the cover plate - but that issue was specific to the thickness of my tip.

I have two grease guns. A man-size one that takes the big grease cartridges, and a smaller one that most home mechanics would use.

I use the smaller one and don't have any problems getting the gun in place.

Forgive me, but I can't resist, SO SIZE DOES MATTER!

I use a plain straight grease gun for mine. Do you have a picture? I'm wondering if your zerks could have been placed better or not. (I guess by now that the point is moot...)

Related to this - my A-arm (front, of course) nipples have self-rotated upwards to the point where I cannot get any grease gun on them.

What is the proper way to remedy this?
