Rebuilding Targa Top

Can anybody recommend someone to rebuild a targa top for an '83 SC? I'm afraid my top is about 4 years past due. There used to be a guy who advertised in the back of Pano, but I don't remember his name. Hey Wayne - does Pelican do top rebuilds? Do you sell used tops? I know there are DIY kits out there but I just don't have the time or manual dexterity (or patience) : ) I figure winter in Michigan is the perfect time to have the top done...

Try www.Carsinc.com
I think thats the website. Anyway, he specializes in Targa top repair and is fairly reputable from what I have heard.
Good luck, I did mine myself with debatable results. It's better than before but not perfect.
If you got the cash, I'd have it professionally redone.

The man for that job is Dan Petchel in New Jersey. The website is www.carsinc-nj.com
I think he charges upwards of $500, but he will go through the entire top, not just slap on a new top skin. The turn around time is usually only a day or two.

Depending on what has to be done and how mechanically inclined you are I would say do it yourself.

If your just talking about recovering the top and adding a new headliner this is easily done by a person that has basic skills and a half decent toolbox (not that you need the toolbox - it just shows you have mechanical ability.

Before you dump the bucks on a complete rebuild visit my web site at
http://members.rennlist.com/5150targa

or the Pelican Parts Tech area

and see if this is something you can tackle yourself. Believe me you'll be impressed with what you can do and the best part is - YOU did it !

By the way - this is NOT to take anything away from what Dan has to offer. I know him and he does great work. This is for someone that wants to try these things for themselves and thinks they can do it. If you don't feel comfortable trying it then, by all means, contact Dan.

I had my '83SC top done March '00 by Autos International in Escondido, CA. Price was very fair (and comparable to Cars, Inc.and other "referred" vendors), and the top looks terrific! Talk to Tony at 760-737-3565.
