weber question

I am giving the Webers a thorough cleaning brought on by some crud in the float bowls. How it got there is another story.

I bought new o-ring seals for the idle jets. A few of them were cracked and brittle. $.39 was cheap once I found the right size. You just got to love an old style hardware store. They have everything among those shelves. I digress.

I was cleaning the rest of the hardware, jets, needle valves, etc. in a sonicator(as a chemist I can get good solvents that do wonders on built up crud), and the seals on the needle valve(idle mixture) swelled and came off the seats. I could not get them off before that point. when inspected these seals are not round but flattened.

ARe these seals old flat o-rings or something special? I am wondering if I can replace them with the same o-ring as above. The current ones are not ruined, but I was going to replace them anyway.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Most O-rings found in carburetors are made of nitrile rubber. Test the ones you bought by soaking them overnight in gasoline. As for the shape, the ones I observed in my Webers appeared to be normal O-rings. A quick call to any Weber rebuilder will give you the answer.
