Street Dyno

Does anyone have experience with the Street Dyno product discussed in the Pelican Parts tech section? Would be great to be able to measure hp in this manner. I did not see any comment regarding accuracy on their home page. Joe '80 SC Targa

I think these products are good but you have to be able to accurately weigh the car. That seems to be an area where people can fudge a bit. If you can get to a truck scale it should be great.

On getting your car weighed... I recently took to items to the local landfill after some updates to the homestead. The dump weighed the truck before and after to see how much I added to the pile. Might be a good place to get the car weighed. Not sure how accurate but the weight was to the single pound. Plus it was FREE! Jamie 71 911T targa

Another place to weigh, if you have them in your area, are grain elevators. Moisture content of grain is estimated by weight vs bushel of product, so the load cells must be calabrated to the pound. I'm getting a G-Tech for Christmas, can't wait till the snow clears! There is an aluminum recycler near by so I think I'll weigh there. Real curious to see how much my car actually weighs vs calculated loss after its big diet. I may call the local semi truck weigh station as well. Hopefully the DOT also calibrates their scales.

hmm, good tip RarlyL8! do you know how accurate those scales are at the recyclers? there is an aluminum recycler not too far from here. i am thinking of weighing all my cars and i'd rather not wait until they bring the Longacre Racing scales out in late April. obin

State department's of transportation do calibrate their scales. When those weigh stations are closed, the scales are still left "on." I had to get out of my car to see the scale reading. 2580 with 3/4 tank of gas and no occupants. You could probably just about corner-weight them there since the scales are supposed to have level ground all around. worth a try. And when the scales are closed, you have the place to yourself. ------------------ '83 SC

Superman, are you talking about those weigh stations on the side of the highway? when they are closed in New York, they have gates around the facility so you can not get in. hmm, i think i'll call up the recycler later, i guess a nice cheap way would be to bring a bag of aluminum cans there and have them weigh my car before and after. obin
