My faux RSR finish fuchs with pics

I just finished this one up tonight. It's one of a set of 16x6 & 16x7 fuchs I bought to replace the stock anodized/black fuchs on my Carrera.

I had the faces blasted clean and then applied a clear acrylic (unfortunately it has a bit too much gloss), let that cure for a couple days, and then taped them off with electrical tape and blue masking tape to apply the black satin background. I used a set of old beat up alloy lug nuts to keep the paint out of the lug nut recesses.

The clearcoat didn't adhere quite as nicely has I had hoped so there are some small fisheyes on the lip of the wheel (probably didn't have them as clean as I thought), and the color is a bit too dark to match the powder white color of the real RSR finish. I know the lips are supposed to be polished, but I didn't feel like sanding & polishing. They're not perfect, but I'm pretty happy for the small amount of money I've spent and the reasonable amount of time taken.

The wheel pictured is a 16x6, I'll try to post pics of one of the 16x7's if I have time to do them this weekend. Cheers!

My faux RS wheel. 1st completely stipped of all anodizing, polished and then gently scuffed with Scotchbrite.

Still a bit shiney. I also hand painted the crests.

Michael, looks great. I am planning that with some centers from my 3 peice wheels. DId you buy off the shelf rattle can clear or get it mixed with a flattening agent?

Cheers

Thanks guys.

Jeff, I used off the shelf clear acrylic by Krylon. In retrospect I should have taken the time to get a clearcoat with the flatening agent as you were inquiring. The gloss isn't too noticeable because of the texture of the aluminum from having the faces blasted.
