Maybe broken odometer?

Porsche odometers seem to be another weak point as the plastic gears break. People don't fix them as I guess they do not see it as a priority. That is why genuine milage can only really be confirmed (IMHO) by multiple sources (not even from a series of stamps from one garage!).
I believe receipts from multiple sources not only give you an idea of what has been changed an therefore what is likely to need changing in the near future.
I hope your case is just a broken odometer - which is what I had!.

Don't know about fraud, as that has an intent component, and we don't know who knew what or who said what to whom regarding your car, BUT

I think its safe to say that the number on your car's odometer and the number of miles the car has actually traveled are two different numbers.

And, BTW, as a result of your research YOU now have knowledge of your car's true mileage history. Something to keep in mind when you have discussions and make representations to potential buyers if you ever decide to sell the car . . .

Right, and I'd like to add that I would include the above information as well as my speculation on the matter if I ever sell the car. I find it repugnant when people pass the grap-your-ankles mentality right on down the line.
When I bought my 914, the seller explained everything about how much trouble the car had been to him, and even asked me what I intended to use it for. When I suggested daily driving, he straight out told me that was a bad idea even though I had the money in my hands (this was many years ago).
I bought it anyway...and learned a lot, but I am always grateful for his honesty.
Of course, he was an attorney and could be disbarred for misconduct (held to a much higher standard than ordinary civilians)...still, I appreciate it anyway.

Carfax is no guarantee that your car has not been rolled back or altered. It is just an accumulation of data to help you make a judgement call at best on whether or not to buy a certain automobile. Title history is just one thing you should look at. From what I see here, the odometer was broken for a couple years. Fraud, nah.
