Will a 2.4 stock exhaust fsystem it a 3.0?

Looking to make the SSI upgrade on my 78SC with the stock 3.0. I found a stock exhaust from a 2.4, from heat exchangers to OEM muffler. Will this be a bolt on system for my 3.0? (aside from oil lines changes) Any benefits from SSI over a 2.4 exhaust system beside saving a possbile 10-20 lbs. and no rust? Bruce Anderson states such an upgrade is possible, but I just want to confirm the 2.4 exhaust will fit. Thanks in advance.

Paul,

The 2.4 system will 'fit' in the sense that the bolt pattern is the same, and will fit over the 3.0 head studs, but the flanges of the 2.4 system are thinner by about 0.5", so spacers of 1/4" iron pipe will need to be fabricated, unless you want to replace the studs with shorter version. And, there is no significant weight difference between '65-'74 heat exchangers and the SSI systems!

Warren, Thanks for the reply. One question, however. I assume the spacers are not placed between the exhaust flange and teh cylinder head, but rather on the stud after the flange has been placed on the stub. Am I correct? Thanks.

Paul,

Exactly! The studs are not fully threaded, and I don't believe the 2.4 flanges are thick enough, so the spacers are needed so the nuts can fully tighten the flanges against the heads.
