longhood vs. impact pedal clusters?

i've noticed that there are variations between the pedal clusters between the early cars and later sc's, 3.2's etc... has anyone else encountered this?

do these actually have a different part number as well?

i'm having a recurring problem w/ the clevis fork on my clutch cable and am wondering wheather that could be the cause...

thanks.

Dave,

You can discount the '77 and later versions that were used with the powerbrakes.

The last version for non-boosted brakes was introduced on the '74 model, pictured below:

thanks warren. so does that mean that there is simply no way that i could be running any other cluster after the '74 model year?

my concern is with part #37 in the diagram above, specifically, how far the part that attaches to the clevis fork protrudes into the tunnel. my problem is that somehow the clevis fork does not have equal loading on it when pressing the clutch pedal and it either breaks open or bends itself outward and pops off the #37 attachment point.

i understand that the bushing in that location (i think it's #38 above) can wear out, it looks like it has, and it could cause the clevis to not be seated squarely, but i'm also worried what would cause it to wear out in such a way?

seems like the clutch cable may be operating at too great of an angle?

i have no problem rebuilding the cluster, but would like to eliminate/expose the root of the problem instead of just fixing something else over and over.
