new Seat Belts??
The front pair of belts, in my 81' are starting to fray, but I don't see any new ones for sale anywhere, except the after-market stuff. Anyone have any experience with these? Thanks in advance.

You can get new ones at www.peparts.com.

My shop got new factory belts for my '83 SC. They were expensive, but I didn't want to skimp on something so potentially important.
I can try to get more info if needed...

I bought mine through PEP parts.
I was not expensive at all. You just have to send them your old latch (core) when you are done. Fit like OEM.

Thanks Ron. We spoke to PEP this morning. They want $300 for the pair, plus $150 deposit for the male ends.

I'll have to look at my reciept but I don't think I payed that much.
Must of had a price increase? Although the core charge sounds right. I only replaced my drivers side belt. Core charge was 75.00 which I got back when I sent in the male end.

PEP is spendy.
Some of our cars will take stock VW belts I think. The stock Porsche belts also sound like a good idea.

I just installed the belts from Pelican. They are Porsche OE belts, even the tags show they're made by the same company as back in 1979. It took about 5-10 minutes per side. I feel safer and hopefully my passengers won't be as scared

Pelican's parts seem to start with 1974.
I wonder if a '73 1/2 car uses the '74 belt setup?

If you have stock seats than I would not think so as the '74+ models have the "newer" high back seats. The attachment points for the lap belt section of the belt system moved from the seat to the pan when they did this.

Buying seat belts has been a little like buying the EPIRB for our fishing boat.
materials and intellectual property-- $39 cost retail--------------------------------$925 w/o bracket What you'd pay if you need it, but don't have it?? "priceless"

Harry,
These are my seats in my 73.5. Do you think the '74 belts will work with these? Brad

Brad,
Sorry, those are early seats (they started in '65). In '74, when they when to the "bumper car look", they also went to the high back seats. These are later seats ('77), in my '73.5

I'm afraid I don't know specifically about your car.
The PO of my 73.5 got belts from PEP, for $140/side - spendy. You might get in touch with http://www.andoauto.com who seem to mostly deal in replacement seat belts. These folks Arise (formerly Old Bijou Productions) 2546 Boren Drive San Jose, CA 95121 (408) 993-8225 and Ssnake - Oyl Products, Inc Rt 2 Box 269-6 Hawkins, Texas 75765 (903) 769-4555 (800) 284-7777 used to do belt rewebbing; haven't talked to them in years, though.

How about some nice Simpson belts? Safety would NOT be an issue, and cheaper to boot!
