Rebuild complete It's running!!!!!!!!!
 

After 6 months of working on it on and off the motor rebuild is complete.

Found 4 broken head studs last August and decided to go through the entire engine.

Had Henry rebuilt the heads and rods, split the case and replaced every bearing and seal, ARP rod bolts, new steel head studs, new rings, balanced everything, sent the fuel injectors in for cleaning and testing, new fuel lines, cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires, replaced oil pressure and head temp sensors, and spent several days just degreasing and cleaning parts and the engine compartment.

Clutch was replaced 4 years ago so I just replaced the pilot and Throw out bearings and updated the fork.

I also installed a GHL muffler, cat bypass and Steve Wong chip, the new sound is incredible versus the stock exhaust.

Thanks to all those on this board that answered my questions and helped me out along the way. Having Wayne's books, the Bently manual and a good friend who also happened to be an expert engine builder in a previous life doesn't hurt either.

It was a very cool and rewarding experience, luckily I got it done the day before our current blizzard so I was actually able to take it out for a couple of shorts drives yesterday.

It must have been a treat for you to finally drive it. It also sounds like you did some good things for the engine, especially the ARP rod bolts & balancing. Can you tell any difference in the feel of the engine from balancing in the short time you've driven it & felt/listened to it?

I had actually forgotten that I had balanced everything the morning that I fired it up (long long hours and 3:30am) and I was amazed at how smooth the engine ran and sounded.

Besides the exhaust rumble it sounds like a sewing machine running, very smooth and quiet. I mentioned this to one of the guys helping me the next day and he said it is probably because of the balancing I did. DUH

It runs and revs much smoother than it did before IMO

We got dumped with an ice storm and blizzard last night so the 911 will be sitting for a while again until things melt a bit.

Good for you Brian. I am currently undergoing the same task with my 87. The only drawback is that it's 20 below here and my fingers freeze to the metal....

Does limited supply of warm weather make owning a 911 even more enjoyable?

Yeah, I doubt it too.

I was lucky enough to have a heated shop at work that I left the car in for 6 months. :D

I am considering buying a house soon, and as my girlfriend mentions fireplace, hot-tub, pool, and other amenities, I counter it with workshop workshop workshop.

Forget the house....just buy a bigger workshop....:D

The shop was nice but I still wish I had a decent garage at home (very small double) to work on it. I wouldn't have gotten in as much trouble with the Mrs if I were "only in the garage" versus across town at all hours of the night working on the car.
