motor/tranny mount inspection

i want to inspect these on my car to try and track down an irritating vibration that's been bugging me since purchase. i've been scanning my bentley manual for info, and the tranny mount removal seems pretty straight-forward. however, how deep into the 'engine removal' steps do i have to dig just to remove and inspect the motor mounts? is there an article on this website that takes one through this in detail? thanks-

Of course, you need to support the engine or tranny when removing these mounts. But once you have placed a jack under the rear of your engine, I believe your mounts will just come off. You might need to lower the engine an inch.

Be somewhat careful with the bolts that go into yoru car's chassis to hold the tranny cross-mount to the car. The female part can be cross-threaded and if you do this, you could have a much bigger problem.
