Targa Clips & Wind Noise

A couple of questions... I have a 91 C2 Targa and suffer from wind noise in the center front of the Targa top. I suspect this is primarily from the top not seating properly in the front center clips.

1. Six of my clips have the tensioner (for lack of a better word) installed underneath the clip. Clip with tensioner in center of clip circled in RED. The two front/center clips are the only clips without this piece (example circled in GREEN). Are these two clips also supposed to have this piece?

2. Is the wear on my Targa frame (circled in BLUE) the cause of the frame not seating all the way into the clip?

3. I have heard some success has been had with a newer/larger version of the clip but can't visualize how a larger clip would provide any benefit. Thoughts?

4. Any suggestions for how to eliminate or reduce the wind noise (short of the old trick of wedging a stick between the front and rear to fully extend the frame into the clips)?

Thanks.

I have been experiencing the same wind noise. When I looked at the clips right after a high speed run, I noticed that the targa clips were not fully engaged, several in the front and two in the rear.

I have been kicking an idea around in my head. It appears that the frame is not totally extended outward which causes the lack of connection with the clips. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to install one or two expanding braces (front to rear) just right and left on center to push the frame of the top outward to its maximum. I guess this is a more complicated solution than stick. That would press the top against and under the clips w/ maximum force.

I have yet to come up with such a brace but I think it would help if not solve this problem. BTW, does the stick work?

Have you tried adjusting the clips? all of them slide back and forth a bit and you may find a better position for them. Sometimes one will be in toofar and by loosen it up just a hair the adjacent ones engage better.
