How to make yer Fuchs Fat!
 
We all love Fuchs, Agreed!

Well if you have a Carrera with 16, 6's and 7's then the rear wheels always seem like they could do with being wider,
Answer ......either buy 16/8's or 9's (if they fit?)
OR if you want to keep it more standard and would rather spend the money elsewhere.......
Buy Wheel adapters!
I have fitted 1" wheel adapters (which have factory studs pressed into them) to the rear and 1/4" spacers (original studs) to the front.
Beware though, The left rear side needed to roll the fender to fit with standard tyres (225's)
Yes, the bodywork on some of these cars are unequal/not symmetrical
So I would reccomend slightly narrower (3/4" or 20mm)
With this method you can alway return the car back to original in minutes, should you want to.

It is intresting indeed. Do you have a photo ya could post with the new spacers on?? Got the same wheels and agree that a little wider stance would be nice... (any ramifications to the suspension?)

I don't have any pics, but have a digital cam. so could if someone could explain simply how to paste pics here?.
As for the suspension, I don't think 1" should make much difference to the durability etc of suspension/running gear. Damage only seems to occur with Hondas, etc and 2-3" spacers hooked up to hydraulics..........Now there's an idea!!!

Incidently I had the camber set at 1 degree i think thats negative (going in at the top)
It was reccomended not to go more than that as it increases with speed, added weight of drivers etc.

Mike, first you need to get your photo a web address by posting to a website. I have been using photopoint.com. Once you have the address, cut and paste using your right mouse button and paste it to a reply post. You have to add [img] and [/img] immediately before and following the address. Go to my post on transporting tires today and check out the post by clicking on the edit icon to give you a more detailed description. Good luck

Get the car back tomorrow and will try and find time to get a before and after pic as I pondered this option for a while.
My car is lowered about an inch and half all round and I definatly prefer the after.
I don't know why the US cars are set so much higher than Euro's?.
Maybe someone can answer that one?
It seems most of us end up lowering to Euro spec or lower!.

Maybe Pelican Parts do them.Otherwise I got mine from an ad. in Excellence- great Mag.
Company is 'Boothe designer accesories'
They do sizes from 1/4" to 3 inch.
If you use spacers with original studs it's not reccomended to go larger than 1/4" otherwise for larger use a wheel adapter that has offset studs!. This company gets a mention in the Porsche Performance Handbook.

The Turbo's have used 27 mm front and 54 mm rear spacers from day One, along with longer studs than the original 56 mm studs ... 72 mm front and 100 mm rear studs, which are readily available, as are various shapes of spacers! So, I don't think there are any real, valid concerns about wheel bearing life!

I have another question. Tell me if I'm way off here. I have an '82sc. Since these cars came with spacers anyway. Can I move the spacers from the back, to the front and get wider spacers for the rear? Just a thought.

I may be wrong above. The spacers in back may not be removable. I can't look at my car right now. If they are not removeable what size spacers would I need to move the wheels out as far as I can without rolling the fender lip?

Question for debate: Will it affect the handling? My theory is a wider back will increase understear. Especially if you are adding more to the back than you are to the front. Maybe half an inch all around?

I'm obviously not an expert on this but I can't imagine it would effect the handling otherwise a standard Carrera with 205's on the front/ 225's on the rear would react differently (better or worse?) than a Turbo which has 205's front and 245's rear.
Warren also points out that the turbo's have 27mm spacers on front and 54 on rear.
With that logic a turbo would have greater understeer than a Carrera?
Anyway doesnt effect me as I drive in Florida at the mo. where there are precious few corners!!!

RETNUG, I believe what you are seeing is the hub itself which is aluminum. The rotor is cast iron. SC's didn't come with spacers, only the turbo's did. Widening the rear track and not the front will change the handling, but not very damn much. The turbos were heavier in the rear so they needed the wider rear track to compensate. Widening the front track with spacers dramatically alters the steering feel ( in a negative way in my opinion) as it changes the scrub radius. It increases the leverage that the tires have against the steering and increase steering effort as well as kickback and road crown sensitivity.(Following ruts etc.)Having said that, I don't think 1/4 in. spacers up front would hurt things too much but I'd limit it to that. Better to go with 7's up front versus 6's w/spacers so the extra width is equally divided inward and outward. Capiche? I've done lots of experimenting with different combos and this is what I've learned. I hope it helps a little.

I know this is a way old thread, but does anyone have pics of that setup of the 7" fuchs on rear with 1" spacers and 6's up front with 1/4 inch spacers?
