The dreaded rust at the corner of the windshield.

Over the last few years, my 89 has developed some slight surface rust at the cowl by the corner of the windshield and side mirrors. I believe the original windshield was replaced 10 years ago and the seal is not perfect. ( I get some minor leaking at the footwell in the infrequent time I have it in the rain.) What have others done to fix? Any surprises? I've contemplated removing the windshield to tackle the job since it is mostly right under the lip of the seal. I'm just concerned the it is harboring more then what has appeared. My car saw a lot of wet DE's last year and I think that may of been much to do with what has developed lately. I'm thinking, pull the window, inspect and repair, spot paint the area, and replace. Might be a good time to replace the stone chip blasted windshield anyway.

Sounds like a plan to me.

an easy place to spot in with paint. if not fixing it right away, pry back the rubber, hold it out of the way, let area dry, and spray a waxoil type product in there. will leak out a bit from time to time but helps keep the rust at bay. TEMPORARILY. Don. ps. there's ALWAYS more to rust than it appears.
