3.2 hp improvement
does anybody have experience with addition of chip along with cat by-pass for cat equipped 3.2? several local shops suggest this over ssi and exhaust. it sounds good based on cost comparison but i wonder what real world improvenment is.

I have the chip in my '85. I purchased Automotion's chip before they became Performance Products. Passess smog and has a little better top end (4500 rpm on up). I did notice a 1 MPG less in city and freeway mileage.
I do have the "test-pipe" not installed as of yet. I understand most agree that the by-pass pipe primarily will help with temperatures(less 5 degrees F), not performance. I also understand the muffler itself is the main hinderence not the cat. Of course by the time you change the pipe and muffler, you should have bought SSIs and a muffler.... Hence, I have not changed my cat yet. I also understand the '86 or '87 up have better improvements over the '84 and '85 when it comes to mods. Nick |

I may be able to help you in this dept. This information is based in my OWN expirences in the never ending search of a few more horses, some people will not agree but here goes,in my 88 carrera i start as follow.
1- K&N air filter, even that some people consider them a dust magnet, never notice it in my case. 2-Bore the throttle Body 3MM,notice improvment at top speeds. 3-Combination of J pipe and custom made muffler, prefer custom over mass production the muffler for sure better quality, performance and sound over any mass production that i have hear(just my opinion) 4-Custom chip same much better than mass production because it can be calibrate on the spot and found the optimun performance. With this modifications my car went from 147 MPH to 165 MPH. if thats all you are looking for you be very happy . BUT....... if you must have more WELL.WELL. You must go to a different level. http://www.geocities.com/titos88911/MY911.html Hope this help... Regards Juan |

Have Chip and cat-bypass, bursch muffler, k&n cone.
Even before the chip (which I haven't tested yet), my best 0-60 times went from 6.32 to 6.18-- And, although I haven't tested it, mainly because my clutch can't handle being dropped at 5k hp (car just sits there when you do that), I'll bet she's inched much closer to 6 seconds since putting in the Weltmeister chip. The trick for me will be to learn how to get the best launch without just dumping the clutch. ------------------ Kurt B 1984 911 Carrera Cabriolet 75 914 1.8 |
