Dual axle trailer-Drum brakes ok, or change to disk?
I have a dual axle trailer with drum brakes on one axle. Would it be better to leave it as is, change to disks, or add a drum setup to the other axle? It is a 16', loaded with my 911, so guesstimate 5000lbs.
I have not towed with it yet, and am painting, doing bearings, and generally going over it; and figure if it needs something now is the time to do it.

It will be fine. I just rewired my neighbor's dual axle drum brake setup and he hauls about 7000 lbs of tractors at only 60%.

You should be fine, I used to haul a 1920's car on a trailer with drum surge brakes. The car an trailer thgether weighed about 8-9000#. When I raced Formula Vee in SCCA the trailer had NO brakes (but there wasn't 2000# total)
Just make sure everything is up to snuff and working properly, and don't forget to grease the ball on the hitch!

I'm going to pipe in and agree with keeping the drums. Good brakes, easy to work on. Just check the pads, make sure the system is hooked up correctly, and enjoy! (I have drums on one trailer, drums and disks on another, and none on the third that holds one round bale of hay)
