Windshield washer doesn't work properly
 

This is not an exotic problem but my windshield washer just spits a little fluid out and quits. It doesn't spray and it doesn't spit much out at a time. Is this normal?

If not how do I fix?

Sometimes deposits will build up over time inside the resevoir or the nozzles, and they need to be cleaned. If this is the case, use some white vinegar to clean the system.

Does the motor keep running? or does it stop when the fluid stops?

If the motor stops, you may need a new motor, or you may need to take apart your wiper switch and clean the contacts.

If the motor keeps running, try cleaning out the nozzles with compressed air, or a needle. Sometimes they get plugged with dirt or wax.

I suppose you could pull the line off the pump that is coming from the reservoir. if it drains freely, your pump is getting supplied. the pump is near the jack and the battery and the front bumper in the trunk.

Then hook it back up and pull the line off the other end of the pump and run the pump. If it squirts out, you probably have plugged nozzles. It's not unlikely your pump is bad.

The check valves can also plug. I ended up replacing my hoses, valves and nozzles. It was cheap at about $25 Canadian from a dealer and the new nozzles looked much better then the old weathered ones.

I cleaned out the nozzles with a pin and tried again. Some greenish brown gunk came out when I tried again.

The pump keeps pumping but nothing but a little water and bubbles come out. So I guess the next step is vinegar.

Identical problem happened to me - the check valves in the system had failed - cheap and easy fix

Parts you need are shown here - check flow from pump by disconnecting in turn and just replace (not worth trying to repair)

A new pump is cheap. 40 bucks or so. Mine is in the front next to battery and was therefore totally disintegrated, so I replaced it. The ones for the headlights run off a different pump down by the resevoir under the left front fender. They are connected via a braided line that runs behind the front bumper

Disconecting the line can tell you wich component is not working. Now I just need to get the headlight one to work...
