Is there a grill size difference?? Sc grill looks to big for new tail?
Fitting a ductail i bought from a fellow pelican, thanks for the service but it looks like my SC grill is to big. The opening on the duck is about 8.25 inch while the SC deck is over 9, yet most parts places say grill from 65-83.
I am looking at this on ebay... Will this fit or does anyone have one? Also included are pics of my polished targa bar, I was going to repaint it but messed up on the finish so i decided to strip it down to the bare metal. I am going to leave it this way until I decide whether or not to paint it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The polished targa bar looks out of place since all the other trim is black.

Trim is easily remedied, just not sure it I want to go through new trim or strip and polish. The metal look to me brings out the wheels and a more old school look.
Even the jeep has a mix of black and chrome trim |

there are ducktails made out there that are either for the metal grill or the plastic grill. unfortunately there is no markings to tell you which! you get to test fit and find out what you got
good luck

I bought a car recently that has a ducktail and plastic grille. The plastic grille does not fit down in the recess in the ducktail properly. My other car parked right beside it has a plastic grille on a MA Shaw ducktail, and it fits perfectly. The fit of the other ducktail is poor everywhere, and the end seams cannot be made to line up, without grinding and modification. The Shaw tail fits perfectly in every respect. I have found that there is no value in purchasing tails that may be 100. or so less than others, when they are new. You will always waste alot of time and labor trying to make an inferior product fit. I did not realize that the tail manufacturers made two different opening sizes for the grilles. Are you sure this is just not poor manufacuring tolerances, as the plastic replacement is supposed to be the replacement grille for everything.

I am now looking for a metal grill for about 100, not the tail. It appears the metal grill is 8 inches in width while the plastic one is closer to nine inches. There has to be a cutoff when the metal grill does not fit newer cars due to the size difference.
I did some sanding and body work to straighten the seams so once the paint is complete I want to mount it, but without a grill I am kind of stuck. The same bidder is bidding on both of the metal grills on eaby so I am not sure if they need both or just one. Last edited by dbrisson; 04-01-2007 at 01:36 PM.. |
