another battery question

Okay....the old gal barely started this morning in this Atlanta cold (no sympathy from nothern owners, please!). The battery is on it's last leg and destined for the lead recycler. With great interest I read the threads on battery update and noted that the "Stinger" was the way to go. I located the web page but identified no order form, price list or even factory location until I saw the small "stinger products" printed across the battery photo. They had no listed number in "Clearwater, Florida". A few calls to battery shops here revealed nothing. Where do you get these things at the subwolfer installer shop? Help..............
Thanks Stinger fans.

The site has a dealer lovater at:
http://www.stinger-aamp.com/USA_ImageMap.htm

You click on Florida, tell them your zip, and they email you the names of the local places that sell it.

I got mine from a place in Las Vegas, that shipped it to me for twenty bucks. Email me if you need the name.

Jack the Man.....
Thanks for the web address. Nothing in Atlanta but surrounding communities will do.

Does upgrading to a Stinger battery, allow you to run only one battery? And does that battery fit completely inside the battery box like the original did? If so, what's the part number on the battery you need?

You only have to use one battery, and it's smaller and lighter than either the original stock batteries or the Optima. I ordered the SP800, which I assume is what the other guys are using. It's 5" high x 6-1/2" wide x 6-7/8" deep, and weighs 23.4 pounds.

See: http://www.stinger-aamp.com/1999/Catalog/Batteries.htm

Warren has explained how to adapt the two-battery system for one. I'll paraphrase his instructions:

Disconnect the positive cable that leads over to the second battery by loosening the two 10 mm head clamping bolts at the driver's side battery connector, then disassemble the connector and clean, then reassemble that connector and cable for the driver's side battery. Then remove the cable and connector for the passenger-side battery, since you have no further use for it! You may want to tape off the cable lead, in case you might be interested in having the option of going back to the OEM batteries in the future.

Gracious!!! Those Stingers are over $200.00!!
Hey thats a lot of sushi!! And the Red Top runs around $180.00!! I have to re-think this one out considering what a Die-Hard costs. Heck, you can get close to three Die-Hards for one of the Stingers and thats roughly 100 months of total use. Will a Stinger last 100 months? Whew.........

Anyone know what the required cranking amps for a 2.4 for a single battery? Thanks.

Thanks for the info Jack. I'm currently running off a single DieHard which is sitting most of the way out of the battery box. The original passenger battery was left sitting in its box but disconnected when I bought the car.

Go to your local NAPA or CARQUEST and ask them what they sell the OPTIMA's for... Perhaps I am just lucky that my CARQUEST always gives out great prices, but I only paid $127 for my Optima Red Top - which is the one you want.

BRose,
I have a friend who owns a car stereo shop. I gave him a call and he was a dealer. If the web site that was provided doen't help that's the place I would look at. Also try this web site and use the dealer locator.

Still having a tough time of it with this battery. NAPA stores I called claim they have "exide" manufactured batteries also called or NASCAR Orbital and Exide Optima. The dimension were 8 1/8 high by 9 1/4 long. I have to measure the cubbyhole tonight to se how much room I have. The price for the Optima was $117.00. No CARQUESTs in the Atlanta area unfortunately. Do you know if the Red Top is also referred to as the Exide Optima? Thanks.
