Kill Switch
 
I read the tech artical on the kill switch and wondered if it would work on the 89 911?
Does any one have a better idea how to wire it in ? I also have the factory alarm.

Mike,

The method described in that article won't work on a Motronic-controlled engine, but a very similar method would work just as well if wired to the DME relay under your driver's seat! If you have the Bentley manual, it should be easy to figure out where to interupt a ground lead to disable the car very easily! Actually, corrosion or bad relays do it for free all the time to unsuspecting owners!

Thanks Warren,
I do have a Bentley, but i'm not sure what to look for. I not much of an electrical person. Should I hook it up to to the green wire going to the ing coil to break the current or to ground it somewhere?

Still trying to work this, best place for a kill switch on later 911's ?-89 DME. Wayne wrote me with saying this "make a small cutoff switch between the ground and the power of the relay (the power that actually powers and controls the relay - not the switch side of the relay). Well, I'm getting closer to understanding but just not up on the current electric lingo. If you have a Bentley Manual, (reference 201-11) is Wayne saying to put a small switch in-between the anti-theft control unit from the ignition and terminal 86 at the main/fuel pump relay socket or is he saying to put the switch between main/fuel pump relay socket terminal 85 and the ground position G-407.

Not exactly. I think what Wayne was suggesting was to put the 'Kill' switch between terminal 85 of the relay and ground. Check the diagram 'Main/fuel pump relay electrical circuit' on p. 201-9, for the 'simplified' version, and on p. 970-30 at the top right corner ... You were half right, the ground terminal is G-407, but the relay terminal 85 is the other side of the relay coil!

What you want to do is just to put a simple switch to interupt that ground connection when you want to disable the car, and provide continuity from relay to ground when you want the car to run correctly! Your anti-theft alarm system will not be touched or interfered with in any way. The wire you want to break is Brown, and it should be brown to your new 'Kill' switch, and brown from the switch to maintain color coding accuracy!!! I hope this is clear enough. Good luck!

Works like a charm, just turns over but never fires up. Pretty slick. Thanks for the help Warren. This mod works for 1984-89 911 with DME.
